I had my Medium 9 years before I bought a Large. If I had to give up one, it would be the Medium. I love its efficiency and it is great for 80% of everything I do, but I would hate to go back to using a shoe horn to get big cooks in.

The selection of accessories is better for the Large and I believe it to be more versatile overall.

Luckily, I don't have to give up either one. :woohoo:

I haven't used a Small, so no opinions there.

ok - here is basically the same question with a twist --- I have 99.9% decided on a Large (to the point I have a price for it with all the toys including table and cover) I think it is the one I will get the most use from - (want to do baking, dutch oven, smoking, grilling etc)

Now the twist to the question - is there a way to make the fire box area (I think that is what I want to talk about) smaller and use less lump when I do things that I might have done on a small or med. for example if I only want to do 4 hamburgers or 2 small steaks - or a way to hold the lump to one side so you use 1/2 of the firebox --

I hope you can visualize what I am talking about - I know I am lousy at describing things.

oh and how funny is it that I am a senior egger and I still don't have my egg ;)

What you're looking for exists for the XL, but not for the Large, to my knowledge.

Honestly, in a year with the Large, I've never had a situation where I thought it would be beneficial. A small amount of charcoal will be properly concentrated in the Large firebox.

thanks - I wasn't sure how the using less lump would work - it is hard when you haven't seen an egg working let alone tasted anything on them ... I try to visualize all from pictures here
