I finally decided to order the ET-73 and started scouring the web. I found a good price at 4thegrill.com. Here is the link. http://www.4thegrill.com/mavet73.html The best thing thought is there is a coupon code. It is good for 10% off That is cm01256. They also offer USPS Priority Mail shipping for only $4.95 and in this day and age that is a bargain. Total cost wound up being $40.94. If you order anything else it's still the same shipping cost.
They have other neat stuff as well, but I know lots of people want this one specifically.

Okay, okay I finally caved. I ordered one. :woohoo: Now I have to miss two nights of happy hour at the club to pay for it.

I almost sprayed ginger ale all over the monitor!!!!

Check out woot.com - today they have the Maverick ET-901
Remote BBQ Thermometer & Timer for $20 + $5 shipping. I checked the reviews on Amazon and they didn't seem that great. -
My Maverick(et73) worked flawlessly for a few months. I was on the forum here bragging about it and wondering why most others were complaining about them. Then it started giving erratic readings alot of the times, causing just enough doubt about reality of temps. Then it just quit altogehter. Now I rely on the BGE dome thermometer and thermapen. To quote another forum member who I admire "To Hell with the grid temp". I have been happy ever since.

Yep, I believe Spring Chicken's post started all this. Now I'm 40 bucks lighter. :ermm:
-
I hope mine lasts longer than that!!! I didn't see how long the warranty was for.
-
Mine is over a year old, however, I do check the probes in boiling water every once in a while.

If I remember correctly....90 days.
-
Is it necessary to wrap the probes in HDAF?
-
I don't. The aluminum foil can act as a heat sink but one has to keep in mind that a heat sink is also a heat conductor. The only advantage I can see using aluminum foil is to keep the leads clean from smoke, but then you deal with dirty aluminum foil covers.
If you want something that will protect the probe leads from burning, Cotronics makes a fiber tubing that will go over probe leads. Someone on the forum bought a long roll of it, I don't remember who that was though.
If I am cooking over 375° - 400° dome I don't use the Maverick or Powered Vent System.
I had an ET-72 (no alarms and 2 meat probes) and one probe did go out on that unit.

You and I are on the same page on the HDAF wrapped probes. Thanks. I'll start looking of some kind of (shrink) tubing.
-
Me to!

I don't think I would bother. Just keep the dome below the rated temperature if cooking indirect put the exit wires over the setter legs.
Knock on wood, I have used my Maverick on hundreds of cooks and no problems so far. I have also use the lower temp. rating Stoker probes and no problems.

10 4 good buddy!

Now watch... you will do a cook, fry a probe and I will be in deep dodo
I still have 2 or 3 of the 901's from the woot sale last year, still in the box. Same price BTW.
Good cooking.

I just wanted to follow up on my order experience.
I got up this morning and on a whim checked the 4thegrill.com website for my order status. This was about 6 AM. I had already been shipped and the US Post Office already had a confirmation number!!! Now I don't know about you all but to me that is pretty darned quick turn around.
Now all I have to do is wait on the the same people that will soon be bringing you your health care.
