I would say you should make the judge and chooser of the ingredient someone that is unable to participate.

Ok, so Fidel is our Judge. Winner decided Sunday Evening.

Lemme start with some proposed rules:
1)Ingredients must be plated as a single dish
2)Can be entree, appetizer, soup, salad or dessert
3)Must utilize all of the mystery ingredients
4)Must be prepared the weekend of the throwdown
5)Entries judged by photographs and presentation counts
Feel free to add. Then we would need judges.

Rules
Must use a Big Green Egg (Large, Medium, or Small)
No accessories allowed except your favorite set of tongs.
No Guru, plate setter, or even a meat thermometer or tin foil.
The Mystery Ingredient must play a prominent role in the dish.
There are to be two pictures submitted. One of the food on the egg with a current major Newspaper in view. Second plated.
Submission to be made by 11:30pm, this coming Sat.

LOL sure I can do this! so we need a list of ingredients to go in the hat. we need to remember that not all things are available every where. like okra and spit top hot dog buns
maybe draw on Sunday night and the cook is for the next weekend. That will give people time to get the ingredients and come up with the cook? maybe the equipment restrictions might not be necessary? if it is about the food? or go with the basics for the cook. so a list of food... how many will we draw???? 2 or three? will we post the ingredients on here or email them to me and they will all be a surprise when drawn? and we do not really need to judge, we will all win from this! -

We need to make it challenging. I say we go with equipment restrictions, on honor system of course.

Best to go with a panel of judges. Three at least. I'm thinking the way to do it would be have five meats, draw one from a hat, five starch and do the same, five vegetable, five fruit and five herbs or spices.
The dish would have to include all of the chosen items and be done entirely on the egg.

Wow, sounds good L.S. I personally dont think we need more than just Rod as judge. He is not participating and those of us who know him trust him. Nothing at steak except bragging rights anyway. But, whatever the group decides is fine with me.

Let's go for it however we can. No slight to Rod, it just helps to have different tastes (visual) involved. Hopefully we can get this thing to a regular event.

ok, but does each judge choose a winner,or is there a consensus? Seems like an extra step to have multiple judges, when its not that big a deal.

I don't know. Maybe so many points for first choice, so many for second and third most points win. Or maybe we could just have Rod do it but there are those that may be able to influence his decision, say by cutting off his supply of certain products not widely available in the US. Yeah let's have Rod do it.

How about everybody judges, one thread for the pictures then participating allows you to vote on as many others as you want in another thread. Winner is the dish with the most votes overall. Don't need a single or a panel of judges that way.
Also, I'm in.

Makes sense. Why even restrict the voting to participants? Some people may be nervous about trying but should still have the chance to vote.

Sure, I was just thinking that it would encourage participation, but all can vote as well. On an unrelated topic could apply your expertise to the tea smoked duck breast I asked about in the chutney thread, in case that got lost?

I think minis should be able to participate...this is mini discrimination...I am calling people in Washington...Max, Max are you there??? He is the only person I know in Washington...or near there...except Wess & Sally...

Ok, so the mini should be in. But in fairness to those who own but one egg, only on e egg can be used, right? Not much room on a mini for all those ing.

Regarding Judging. One person has to make a decision , albiet taking into consideration all those that post who their favorites are. We as a group cant even decide how to judge it, much less who the winner is.
