If you were building a table tomorrow....
Options
If you were building a table tomorrow what would you be sure to include or do?
I am using 4x4 treated posts for the legs, 1 x 6 cedar boards and i have 6 12 x 12 marble tiles, some 2 x 4's for support and a friend who actually knows what he is doing. We are going to start on her tomorrow. I am going for something like Charcoal Mike has and what Retired Railroader built, hopefully the finished product resembles on of the two.
Thanks

How about casters(wheels), once you get the egg installed it would be difficult at best to add after the fact. A paver to put under egg. Plans for the table would be nice, you might be able to search the forum or web for plans to work from. I have never made one, good luck.
Gator -
here are some table plans hope it helps.

I have some plans drawn up, and a general idea of what we want to accomplish. I also have the wheels from the old table that I plan on recycling and via the whiz's site plan to install a firebrick base for the egg...I am just wondering if there are any little things, handy options or cool ideas from you guys that would make egging even better. I also plan to have one electric receptacle (by way of the old table) on it too.
thanks again -
It sounds like you have a good plan look at the table gallery on the naked whiz site and see if there is anything you like far as "the little things". Good luck
-
this is my old table, as you can see I did not do so good of a job cutting out the hole on top...

I used the dome for the template. Try to get under it as far as you can with the pencil. It worked great for me. I have about 1/4" or so clearance all around the Egg.
-
ok thanks will do...how do you post photos via photobucket?
Is 1/4 inch enough? If you are doing a lot of pizzas and high temp stuff? And, what part of the egg should be closest to the table cutout edge? Will 1/2 inch under the bottom lip of the bottom section of the egg work?
Thanks! -
I really admire you guys that can measure twice and cut once - that ain't me though. So I had this table built. Note the extra storage shelf below (still figuring out what to put down there - one item is the cover), large prep area and umbrella holes. The table is 30x60 and feels good wrt to size and functionallity. I don't know what else I would have done differently, oh yes I do, a thumb screw to hold the umbrella from turning when the umbrella is tilted. Air flow aroung the egg is critical (duh).
Good luck, looking forward see your pics of the finished product.

Yes what Gator said - wheels make a big difference.
-
I added a drawer and umbrella holder to mine.

Casters - these are nice, from McMaster.com:
p/n 2426T54 swivel caster,
p/n 2426T74 fixed caster,
Haven't seen the 2426T64 (think that's it...) locking caster with brake.
These casters have 5" gray urethane wheels, nice bearings. I'm using them on the table I'm making.
Boulder, CO -
I'd build another table designed to load the Egg, from the front, instead of from the top.

Kokeman, maybe move the umbrella to the back middle then you could have the umbrella cover the whole table....that is a great table!Bone Daddy's Competition BBQ & Catering
