Welcome to the new eggers :) long
As you visit here and start to post and maybe even get in an egg fest or two you will get more comfortable and make friends.
My friend from Texas that lurks on here does not post. She is intimidated and does not want to feel stupid.
It is kind of like walking into a private party where everyone knows everyone else and you have just crashed it with out a clue.
What you new eggers do not realize and what the old ones forget, is we were all new eggers at one time or another and we have been there. from being unsure about loading the lump to temp control. we have all walks of life on here, but our binding interest is the egg. sometimes we forget that
I know there are many very long distance friend ships that have formed due to the egg. people that would have never met if not for the egg. so don't be afraid of posting. it might be your new best friend that answers. As you visit here and start to post and maybe get in an egg fest or two you will see that everyone on here is great. we are like a big mostly happy family and everyone really does help. sometimes we do get caught up in silly things and talk about other stuff but we are 99% egg related discussions. so step out of the smoke from behind your egg and say hi
I promise that I will answer you and I am sure a lot of other will too :cheer: JulieP.S. and do not worry about the spelling and grammer. geez I know we all should know how but that is just life. we are not publishing books here. we are cooking...

Morning ther Julie, hope you and Neil are feeling better first off. Great post, and I hope most people read it. I met so many great people here and a lot of them are good friends and like family. I have learned so much here and really appreciate the forms and all the good help. So welcome all new and old Egg Heads.
Now I wish someone will post on how to do wings, I just can't figure out on how to make great wings. I under stand there is this guy in here that goes by, sometimes KFC and makes the meanest wings out there.

LOL Mike you nut! Yeah he is good but he got his BUTT stomped in Ocala by this guy "Pootbutt"

great post mainegg!! i am a two week egg owner. i know i asked for a recipe for pulled pork pie. one post. so i take it you just cant make on an egg! thank you
-
Julie, Thank You!

From a newbie's point of view yes it is intimidating to post on a forum of eggsperts. One thing I noticed, there are no stupid questions. Really I have read a lot of posts and I don't recall seeing someone getting ridiculed for the question they have asked. Always great answers or tips (and yes asking someone to search the forum before posting is a great tip).
Thanks to all of you for making newbies feel welcome in this great family.
Max. -
If you can make an Apple pie and you can make pilulled pork...
You can definately make pulled pork pie. I haven't, but know it could
be done. -
Julie,
Congrats, and Welcome to the EggNation! Ha! That's usually what I post for the new folks on the forum.
Excellent post...this forum is very unique--from the software they're running, to the cast of characters posting their thoughts, pics of their handiwork, their very helpful tips, plus all of the OT stuff in between.
I try to offer the same support and encouragement that was given to me when I was first cutting my teeth on the egg, with hopes of passing along some of the great information I've picked up over the years.
So just ask, OK? There are more than enough helpful folks here on the board who have the answers and tips you're looking for--and maybe, even more

Eggers are the friendliest group of people I have come across in a LONG time, maybe ever. After a year of mostly lurking and a couple of random posts we made time to attend the Waldorf Eggfest this year. Having never been exposed to anything like it I remember saying that we can't even pretend like we know what is happening, we just have to walk in with our coolers and say, "hello, we are new and have no clue what is happening, but we brought food!" ... we set up camp next to Pete and Jay and they were helping us unpack, and offering extra hands to set up our rain canopy (which I had to run out and buy ... that is how new we were) ... and we had just barely met ... by the end of the day we were sharing food, war stories ... and even going back and forth with some friendly 'jabs' about who's food was better ...
It was personally rewarding to have a crowd gathering around the empty pan of wings asking how we made them and asking if we could stick some aside when the next batch was done so they could have more ...
We then went to the after hours party and met everyone again ... we were given food, beer, t-shirts ... all by 'strangers' who were all of the sudden friends!
I will say it again, the nicest group of people I've crossed paths with in my 34 years ... and I think the fun is just beginning!!!

Julie what a good post. This is information central for Green Egg and any thing you might need an answer to by of the Off Topic (OT) posts for non egg info.
The depth of information on this forum is unbealivable to cover any subject....Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given another Mini to add to the herd. -
As a newbee, I write this post with some fear of being ostracised by the community...but, I'd like to share it with you as a different perspective.(I apologise in advance for the length of this post)
I would also like to refer back to Little Steven's post after midnight last night and many of the positive responses. (re: embibing)
I recall one of the first posts that I made during my early lurking stages. "low and slow" I thought I was asking some legitimate questions and I recall getting jumped on. Some eggers came to my rescue and reprimanded the jumpees. I can tell you that the initial responses I received scared me off posting for a while and I was contemplating getting rid of the egg or at least staying away from the forum. What a shame.
Yesterday I watched Little Steven welcome and educate newbee eggers and wannabees encouraging them to post. What a great embassador for this product. I would ask all eggers to try and emulate his approach especially with newbees. I felt very proud with his enthusiastic approach.
There are times when this forum seems like the "old boys network or even a glass ceiling". Difficult to crack, sometimes intimidating, many times educational, and sometimes welcoming.
Kudos to mainegg and others for welcoming newbees and for Bente for taking the time to "tell it like it sometimes is".
I would agree that posts from newbees should respect the knowledge and eggsperience of the eggsperts, but I would also say that eggsperts should recognise that newbees crave knowledge and require them to be mentors and educators.
I suppose it's a lot like life - we meet some terrific people along the way but we also meet some bad apples. My mother used to say "if you can't say something good about someone, don't say anything at all". I think that's important and although I agree with it, I too am guilty of responding before I speak.
In closing, I'd like to say that this froum is a great selling point for BGE with a tremendous amount of helpful information and resources offering a great sense of community. I would encourage everyone to participate and look forward to your questions/answers.

hey Michael, it is true and sometimes some of us think someone else might answer cause we don't have time right then and we get caught up in things and it slips down the posts :ermm: When I first started posting I think there was only a couple of us "ladies" on here and most did not post. I tend to barge in and step on toes sometimes but never mean too.
but put me in a group and I am the quiet one watching LOL unless I have to much vino
sometime answers might seem "short" but we might have tried to answer in a hurry and don't flower it up LOL
Steven post was the one I did this post for as I thought it might get missed LOL those big words and all!
I miss all the excitement as I am in bed by 9 at the latest LOL but on here at 5am when there are only 3-5 of us. we don't get to rowdy in the AM.
there are some cranky ones. like all families we have them LOL and some nut cases LOL but I am glad you noted that some did step in and defend you. some say you have to pay your dues but how can that happen if you don't post and ask and learn and pass it on
-
I agree...
I understand paying dues and I support that.
The problem is; if you get scared off with the intial reception and won't participate, then you can't pay your dues or share your ideas.
In my opinion, experience doesn't have a monopoly on good ideas. (it certainly helps) I'm sure there are lots of newbees and wannabees with great ideas.
At the end of the day, I think this forum is great and there are great people and ideas here so I would encourage all newbees and lurkers to participate.
If at first you don't succeed - try, try again!

Great post Julie, I was one of them. I lurked here for 2 years without posting just going through all the pages until I found the info I wanted. Once I registered and started posting you couldn't shut me up. As for the people I have met a bunch that I'm sure will be lifetime friendships so for all you lurkers don't waste time like I did take Julies advice and jump right in here.

great points!!
i am glad i did not try to type that last night  but luckily for me you took the words right out of my mouth

Julie,
Did I use big words darlin? I don't usually stay up that late but I was so pumped after a day of easing people's fear of the egg.
Kudos for what you most eloquently said.
If might add I have heard terms like "the in crowd" and "old boy's club" and such. New folks need to understand that this, for some of us, becomes a way of life and the friendships we make are very real. I can understand how it would appear to be a high school thing but it really isn't.
I was just really surprised yesterday when I said to people, the forum is your best source of information and heard they were intimidated. I don't know if that is a common feeling or not but I notice that the ratio of members to guests is as high as I have ever seen.

Michael,
That was extremely well said. I don't know if you read my response to Julie but the impression of the Old boys club really isn't true. Many of the people on this forum have met at fests and other venues and are true friends.
I lurked for several years before I became active on the forum but back in the day there were a lot less people. I'm shy anyway and when I posted many things recieved no responses even then. I believe what we see now is what Julie said
sort of let it ring somebody else will get it.
There is so much going on now things can slip.
One thing is great though and that is when you see somebody that you advised as a newcomer jumping in and fielding questions like a pro.
Anyway, it was great to meet you yeterday and I'm sorry we couldn't spend more time talking.

Hey it's always after 5. It's not specified Am or Pm
I can't remember which egger has it in his signature line but I love it (Thank you BGE for giving me an excuse to drink at 7:00 AM) or something like that.
Hope to see you in October and all is well with the family. -
What, you're gonna beat me up for something YOU said?

LOL Steven I have pictures of you remember..... when you could not have said those big words if your life depended on it! LOL and it is true I find myself doing the same thing. I sign on and zip through the postings and see the subject quick and who it is. there are people that I do tend to open their post even if it is a "nothing" post. So I guess it could appear to be a good ol' boys club or the in crowd as it were.
I can understand how they might be intimated with people like Little chef and Patricio posting. or to post just a simple pizza after you have looked at Zippies. You wonder if you will look stupid or just ho hum. I really hope people realize that it is all possible. you are limited by your ambition only. you do not need to spend big buck for a WOW meal. or even a ton of time. but if you love it and are having fun with it and are PROUD of what you are doing DO IT! There has to be cooks we strive for and things we have down pat to help others with. Otherwise this would all be pretty boring
Doing a demo is so much freaklin fun! like at the egg fests cooking and handing it out as fast as you can. and talking to non-eggers is so.... powerful..... I guess is a good word. and this forum is what I tell people to go to too.
and it is the best tool after you get your egg simply because of the people that make it what it is
and no Steven I don't think you have shut up!! from the looks of things today neither have I. I need to get to work so I can buy gasket materials..... -
Your right Michael some of the best ideas (with Zippy being the exception :S ) come from the newer people that are not stuck with traditional methods.
-
yea that is a pretty funny signature!!
family doing well looking forward to invading disney world next week.. and we will be there in october may bring home a new family member.....i hope
happy eggin
