Those things live for a very long time. I remember as a kid there was a small zoo up in the country that had one that was well over 100 pounds and had an Indian arrow head imbedded in its's shell. It was probably close to 100 years old then. It was still very much alive and I don't know if it's still around or not. As a young teen I was fascinated with the striking speed and strength of this turtle.
-
We have a good many of them in the lake where live, Also have Alligators.. I had much deal with a alligator than a big snapping turtle. They are really neet though.
-
And the flavor. -RP
-
It's A really slow cook Randy.. I forgot to say click on the pic for slidshow. Maybe folks will anyway.
-
Eddie, are you talking about the old Swamparium in Cantonment? I remember the turtle with the arrowhead lodged in the shell. Also remember old man Nowak rubbin' the gator with that stick to make him show his teefs
-
That would be the one. What a small world.
-
Is that place still there? The old guy that was running it was old then and that was 30+ years ago. I don't know if the family has kept it going or what bacame of all the animals.
-
My FIL gets a lot of them and they are delicious. When are you going to do a cross country this direction in the Kolb? Like to see it. -RP
-
It's been gone for years. No clue as to what happened to the animals :ermm:
A trip down memory road, for sure -
I thought so. I kind look around to see if I can rember exactally where it was whenever I go by. I remember it being up Hwy 29 a bit.
-
That's pretty cool mang!!! :woohoo: This isn't a snapper, but it's old as dirt, and very friendly This is one of my buddy's pets
My kid even took it for a ride
-
Since you are here. Pinch a Penny now has Dizzy Pig Seasons. :woohoo:
-
Don't do many cross countrys. Just local flights. Matbe I could post some pics, Ha
-
I have heard that some land turtles will live to be 200+ years, one claim of 256 years, Amazing.
-
Sweet! 9th & Olive or Pine Forest?
-
That's really cool. The old snappers are not so friendly, as a matter of fact they are down right mean, and with that hook bill they can hurt you really bad.
-
E-mail me some pics. -RP
-
What is the over and under on that thing? 65lbs?
Mike -
I didn't weight him Mike ha, but from past experience I would say in the 70 to 80 lb range. We have some in the lake a lot bigger.
. -
Will do...
-
9th and Olive for sure and probably the others too. I have been getting in good with the dealers.
-
They could remove a few digits for you.
 -
Didn't I teach you better than that??? Shame on you, putting poor Charlotte in harms way. Did you get to see where she laid the eggs so you can watch for babies?Judy
Covington, Louisiana USA -
Hey kolbdriver, I have a friend in Mt. Ida that says the black bear population there has exploded. Has it your neck of the woods?
-
Charlotte loves that sort of thing. Yes she is laying in these pictures ( it a sideshow by the way , click on the pic.) unfortunately something dug them up and eat them last night. This happens often. Sure enjoyed being with ya'll at the eggfest, looking forward to the next visit.
. -
No, not down here. I am in the southern part of the state, only 20 miles from La. The Black Bear are really doing good in the northern half. Mt. Ida is a neet place.

they make Great soup!!
they taste a lot like pot roast. -
A farmer had to shoot one here today. It has been getting his goats. They had been trying to trap it for awhile. Thats too bad.
-
I've never grilled one, but dayum, they are delicious fried!
-
They won't let go until it thunders. Or so the old saying goes.
