After eggin' for 11 years, you'd think I would'a caught this before it happened.
The recipe I was using didn't mention making the 500 deg cook an indirect one. LOL So take note, nation of Eggers! Generally speaking a 500 deg chicken cook of any type should be indirect!

Thanks for the replies! It was edible, but a little too charred for my liking. Of course, I ate every bit of it! LOL The thing is, I had to scrape some of the crust off the worst offenders.
