OT Our family pet is gone...

We had a sad day today. Our 18 year old cat, Milo, had to be put to sleep. He was deaf as a post for the last 4 years, unable to eat or make it to the dirt box, diabetes and kidney failure finally gave in. For the last three summers he would sit on my lap on the deck and we would watch the egg cook together. The doctor said he would not last to next week and we are doing the right thing. It was very difficult to see him go.

Sorry to here that. It sounds like his quality of life had really deteriorated, so this was likely the best thing for him. 18 years. WOW. That's definitely like loosing a family member. :(
BTW - would you be interested in 2 Persians??? LOL
Just kidding - my wife would KILL ME. -
I am so sorry to hear about your loss... As a lifelong slave to cats, I can feel your pain...
Thanks...

I share your grief. Losing a pet is a terrible thing. Mine are as close to me as my kid.

I feel your pain. We also had to put our beloved cat to sleep after 16 years. It was the hardest thing we ever had to do. Near the end he had diabetes and the doctor showed us how to give him a shot. We knew it was time, just as you did today. We still suffer the loss and it is a love you will never forget - nor will you want to....cherish the memories.

I can feel for you Phil as our pets can be as much of a loss as some one in the family. They in fact become a part of our family and it is a sad day when that time comes.Keep your chin up.Hope all goes well.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Losing pets is a difficult thing to get over.
I have a dog nearing 13 years old in similar condition - blind, deaf, and failing organs. I dread the day he passes. He is my best little buddy in the whole world. -
:( sorry. Somehow, they never really leave us, do they?
Memories make us smile and tear as well. But wouldn't trade that for being without ever having loved them
-
Sorry to hear the sad news, our animals are family and it hurts like heck when that happens.
My Best,

I can relate Phil..few years ago had to put down the lab that my kids grew up with..had cancer and had begun to suffer...I cried like a baby even the night before :( ..is tough how much we grow to love them.. took us 2 years to get over the loss before we got another dog...now she is as much a part of the fam as any of us!

Sorry for your loss. We also lost our chihuahua to cancer a year ago. Didn't realize how attached you can get to a pet.

sorry to hear of your loss...
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Can't have kids so our pets are the closest thing to kids we have. Truly I can feel for you. They become so much a part of our lives and then pass on leaving a big old hole in us. In some small way know you did way more than most would for her. Regrets are something that are hard to live with. Don't think you should have any.

Phil...I am SO sorry...honestly! I know our day is coming! We have a 14 year old, diabetic, nearly blind.. our day is coming soon to I'm afraid!

I'm so sorry Phil... We put down our Roxy yesterday. A 13 year old boston terrier that never met an egg cooked scrap she didn't love! It is a very sad day indeed, when that day comes. Several years of joy and partnership paid for with one day of unbelievable sadness. A very fair deal. May the pain soon ease for you.

Sorry to hear that. Last month my poor wife had to take our beloved English Bulldog in for the final trip to the vet. Bad thing was I was just checking in for my flight home when she called.
All I wanted to do after a week away alone was see her and the dog. At least I was spared that drive. Not sure that was a blessing or curse. :( -
Phil...my heart goes out to you and your family. I'm a firm believer...that you "will know" when the time has come. Randy has always been the one to make the vet trip for us. About 3 years ago, he was out of town, and it was time...for our 11yr old English Mastiff. My daughter and I took him down....in a horse trailer...as he couldn't jump into the truck. He was sooo happy to be going for a ride. The best thing we did...was stay there with him. He was soooo peaceful. I then regretted that I hadn't shared that moment with any of the other pets.
Here's a little Pet's 10 Commandments I was just sent recently....sorry it's long.
A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS.........
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old - remember, you too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me, please. Never say you can't bear to watch.
Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.
~Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them.
Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters
~Now please pass this on to other pet owners. We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs! -
So sorry for your loss. Sounds like he was a great companion. Cats leave paw prints on your heart!
-
I am sorry for your loss. We had a bad 4 days just before I came back to China this time. One of our 8 year old Scottish Terriers had to be put down on Ash Wednesday due to cancer and on Sunday my 16 year old yellow labradore, Sonny (MD Houston's Carbon Copy SH had to be put down. This was the night before I left to come back for a 28 day hitch. I hope every man has a dog as good as Sonny once in a life time. He was that good.

Thanks so much for sharing the Rainbow Bridge. It brought tears to my eyes. I lost my 26 year old horse last month. I spent many days sitting in the stall with him, laying his head on my lap. After many visits from the vet, never did find out what was wrong with him. It is such comfort to think of him the way he used to be. I look forward to the day I meet him at the bridge......Jen

i've had to take a couple of dogs to the vet for their final trip over the years . ..i don't look at it as taking them to 'put them down' but simply to help them along on their journey as you don't want them to suffer and they are really telling you that they need your help to get them there. . .doesn't make it any easier though, and when you are pet lover, you unfortunately have to go through this any number of times during the course of your life. . .i'm really sorry for your loss!!
but i'm sure he will leave you with lots of great memories. ..i know i have many fond memories of every dog i've ever owned, even the stupid beagle my sister in law saddled me with a few years ago! -
I understand your pain and I am sorry for your loss. We found our cat, Max, in the front yard one morning not long ago and never knew how he died. He loved my daughter the most. Once again, I'm sorry.
-
I am so very sorry about your loss. Pets are family, and I can only begin to imagine the pain in your family today. My thoughts are with you.
-
I'm so sorry Phil. Our four legged buddies always seem to grow close into our hearts.
-
