Your table looks great! I am also building one of similar design but using Massaranduba which is a Brazillian Red Wood that I got from a local lumber yard. It is a very hard and dense wood that should hold up quite well. I'll post some pictures when done.
Anyone have any suggestions for lowering the egg into the hole without dropping it? Of course I will take out the fire ring, box, etc. to lighten it but it is still difficult to get a hold of.

Yeah, that is my next order of business!!

Looks good. I would add some more support under the egg, just to be safe.
(it may be there, but I didn't see it in the pics. -
You might try a PotLifter. If I had a supply of surplus bubble wrap or plastic peanuts I wouldn't hesitate to put some in a shallow box to put where the egg is going to touch down. Ya just never can tell. I dropped my medium and it wasn't a pretty picture. :(

Two people can lower an emptied Egg into a table no problem. Hold on to the Egg on the ceramic where it flares out at the top of the bottom half. Be sure not to lift the Egg by the hinge.
I bought a Potlifter and never even used it. I kept it in case I need to carry the Egg a long distance during a move (I will be moving this year). -
Very nice indeed. Can't wait to see the finished product with the Egg in it.
