Small Chip On New BGE - Would this bug you?

Just a question for some of the folks on this forum. I have a new BGE, around a month old and while changing my gasket and taking off the band I noticed a small chip. I've been a assured that any spreading would be covered under warranty which I know would be honored, but how would you folks deal with this, would you be bothered if your BGE had a chip like this? Would you just forget about it? Fortunately it's under the band so its not noticeable.

davewolfs,
I would keep a close eye on it, if not just ask for a new base. If you paid the price, why would you start out with an imperfection?

To prevent it from getting worse, avoid having a shelf bolt in that vicinity. Just my 2 cents.canuckland

As you said, fortunately it's covered over by the bands. Ask your dealer for the touch up paint if it really bugs you. The missing flake will not amount to much in the future, I would just suggest keeping the bands over it and enjoy the great food to come.

Would it bug me? NO!
But I do see where are coming from here…Hey, it’s new and has a flaw.
I would let the dealer know, just an FYI, and keep an eye on it, but I don’t think it will become any big problem.

If your dealer does not have it and I bet they don't Atlanta has some touch up paint if it is really bothering you.
Couple bucks for some peace of mind and making all things green again. -
That is not too bad. This happended about a year ago or so. When it happenededm it sounded like a gun going off.
Yes, it bugs the hell out of me but it does not effect the cooking at all.

mine popped last year, atlanta said it was covered. with mine you can see where the ceramic was not thouroughly mixed and had a dry spot before it was fired. bothered me when it first happened but not enough to bring it to a dealer for replacement

I would say after a few cooking sessions you will be so focused on the food you will forget about the chip.

I think that since it's beneath the band, and not hurting anything, I'd let it go as long as it doesn't start to spread. My 2 cents.
-
Not sure if you were referring to mine, that is a Rutland gasket. I've not had the new one yet.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. I have moved mine(within my city) 5 times and it is bound to get a chip or two in the moving process, or the band changing process, or whatever else comes up over the years. I would paint it if it bothers you and just get cooking!

Since you already changed the gasket and tbe chip is covered by the band, I would just enjoy the egg as is...but yes it would bother me...
If it spreads then you can make a claim. Or if for some reason you just can't live with it you can make a claim later. -
Yes it would bug me. IMHO anything that costs as much as an Egg and is covered by a warranty that protects the owner from just that kind of problem. Big Green Egg would be happy to replace it. I realize that it is hand made and that one should except the minor imprefections of that ilk but a chip in the protective coating isn't on of them. A dent in the hood of your new car is one thing a 50 cents sized chip in the paint is another.

I found a dead on color match in ceramic paint at a craft store. Works well and lasts a long time.

Nope it wouldn't and don't bother me one bit.

Can't even see it when all back together.
