I have never been to an Eggfest, but am considering making a road trip to Okla City in April. I have several questions to you more experienced "festers".
In addition to what looks like a fantastic time of egg-celebration, do these fests also have competitive cooking? Other than chili throwdown challenges - with bribed judges?
thanks,

always!!! Just kidding. Eggfests are fun and very informative. The joking is friends that met friends and boast online but go to everyone you can just make sure that if your next to Egret (a very nice gentleman) that you put up barbed wire to keep him off your table

Oh yes. Iron Egg Chef 2009 will be held. 5 secrect ingredients, 30 minutes. People talking to you the entire time. Cook, plate and serve. No problem.
I'm sure Chris would love someone from MS.
Mike -
Thanks, Mike. I was talking with a friend today (who has won statewide BBQ title(s) in the past) about the OKC fest. He said a 9 hour road trip would be a little much unless there would be some competition to "liven it up".
Are you serious about them having an Iron Egg Chef deal, or were you kidding? (I haven't quite learned all the nuances of the forum members - and inside jokes).
Thanks, -
Talked to Snoop tonight. There are having it again. I can't tell you what he said, you won't want to miss this fest.
The lovely and talented Ms Molly won the first one. First prize is a Chefs Hat.
Bribery though is still an option though. :woohoo: :woohoo: $$$$$$$$$$$$ince I will be judging.
LOL Mike -
Why am I not $$$$$urprised ?????

Iron Egg Chef is real. Check it out.

Actually it is very well judged, the chefs get to explain to the judges what their idea was and how they prepared the dish. Very intense but fun.

Mike's link to the pics from last year, was very informative.
Thanks -
Pretty sure you can make it to teh Texas Eggfest in Austin from the Jackson area in about 7.5 hours..is that worth it?
-
I'm also thinking about attending this eggfest.
What advice do you "veterans" have and how does the whole thing unfold?
Basically for someone going for the first time what do I need to know?
Does everyone camp? Hotel?
Can you just show up with an egg, cooler and tarp and start cooking and meeting folks?
I need some egg friends! :woohoo: -
You just neeed to show up a cooler and food to cook. Tents are provided along with eggs. If cooking indirect you need to bring a plate setter.
The place we stay at has a full kitchen. The meet and greet is within walking distance. Fox and Hound is real close. :woohoo: :woohoo:

Awesome!
I would imagine individual gear is up to the participant such as tongs, thermometers, gloves..ect..ect? -
Brad,
Do you have a date yet for the 2009 Texas Eggfest in Austin? Couldn't find anything on Google.
Thanks, -
Right.
-
Mike I've never been to this event, so fill me in on what Fox and Hounds is.
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the OK border patrol is going to allow WI residents in during the OKC eggfest. Wouldn't want to miss cooking with you. This will surely be a memorable fest. :woohoo: -
It's a restaurant/bar where Mike goes talent scouting. :P -RP
