Today I picked up three 9 pounders at the local grocery store at .99 a pound. Ive only got them cheaper one other time at .89 a pound. This is Excel brand and I use them all the time and have had nothing but success. Anyone else have any cheaper prices? The sale goes until next Tuesday and Its gonna be hard not to go get 2 more!

Are they enhanced?
-
Cheapest here on sale for $1.39. Sale?

Most producers are going to more of an organic marketing tool. Some are still enhanced for certain retailers. Just read the labels, BTW. About $.89 and I pick up about 8 and freeze. Then make homemade sausage, pulled pork, summer sausage.

HA! if we are lucky maybe under 2.00 a pound around here :(
-
Thats got to be a killer at them prices MainEgg, I use a lot of Pork Butt here, between sasuage, pulled pork, and buckboard beacon. We average around 1.49 lb. very rare we see anymore .99 cents.
-
I got a local store here that usued to keep them all the time at .99 and run them on sale at .89 but now they usually stay 1.39 and go on sale everonce and a while for a buck a pound. Sounds like a pretty good price to me. Jon

I'm just up the road in Harvest. What store?
-
That's a good price. The only way I beat that is to buy them by the case - roughly 60-65 pounds.
I would stock up. Butts freeze very well. -
Food City store in Lake Havasu, Az is .79 # this week. Going to pick up a few myself & then ask you guys for some receipes for buckboard bacon & sauage. See-Yaa

1.39 in the Indy area.
We need the popularity of backribs, boneless chops, and ribs to stay up. Let the restaurants add these items. Restaurants pay premium prices. This makes for an abundance of shoulders and the wholesale price goes down to get back in balance.
Live hog prices is at 68 cents lean per lb this AM. This is a live weight and you will have 20 to 35 % shrink so the butts at .99 is just about at cost.

They have been .99 here for about a month, they are cryo'd two to a pack but a total weight around 12 pounds instead of the 16 pound double packs from Sams. I love the way they doctor the label....I saved more than they cost. I guess I'm making money every time I buy one....
I cut two of them into pork steaks and vacuum sealed them for the freezer. I've done several batches of Pepper Pork (just like my Pepper beef, but with fresh onions and chicken broth) to take to work.....With prices like that, I've got to make a batch of Christmas sausage and tamales too.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
1.69, sometimes 1.29. only saw .99 a pound once i thinked egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante

Hail I can get whole hog for 99 cents a pound..
It's good to live in the Pork Capital.

Why not just do it like my father-in-law. Pay +/- $20 each for a litter of piglets, raise, and slaughter as needed?
Free garbage disposals in the yard and good eats when you want them. -
Believe it or not NC laws regarding pig farms are too prohibitive for small farms like the compound.
That $20 litter would cost me $100,000 dollars in waste management equipment.
Even keeping one pig requires elaborate waste management. Trust me the neighbors would know there is a pig here.. -
I've noticed that more and more stores are changing the card club programs from being a few cents extra discount to being necessary to even consider shopping there. I mean, really, who would pay $2.79 a pound for pork shoulder at Safeway, when everyone else sells it for $1 to 1.70?
-
You are right on the Club savings, but here is a real draw....One of our Safeways has gas pumps and you accumulate points during each quarter, the more points, the more discount on gas. This quarter we have a $.51 discount per gallon.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery
