What is the point of a mini

I am not asking that question to be a smart ass I am seriously wondering. The BGE site says it can cook 2 pork chops, 1 steak, etc. It cannot hold that much. Obviously if you are a solo cooker then it works for you. But is there any other reason to opt for a mini instead of a small? What is the price difference?
thanks

  • I think you kind of answered your own question plus it fills a hole in the product offering.

They can be had here in Knoxville for around $140...

At about 35 lbs it's portable for camping or taking to a friends house. It's good for doing a couple of chops, beef tenderloins or anything that will fit on a 9 inch grid. She's great for sides while doing the main course in a larger Egg, (pork butt, steaks, meatloaf or whatever)

Great for searing steaks but if you have a very large porterhouse you may only get one on at a time. I'm sure other Egger's will chime in with pictures.
  • Have you ever had Pup's BBQ. It is just south of 40 near the Borders on Kingston. I have family in Knoxville and visit once or twice a year and have yet to try that place. Last time we tried Shane's and it was pretty good. The first place I tried was Calhouns which I thought sucked.

Let me know if Pups is any good
    thanks

we got the mini for camping to go with the small and have found we use it a lot more than we thought we would. it was supposed to just live in the camper but it came out on the porch with the others and we fire her up quite often. if I am just searing a large steak for the two of us then it is the mini all the way!

The mini is a great 2nd or 3rd egg. It is GREAT for small cooks, picnics, camping, tailgating and more!

    I love mine!

I brought my mini to work a couple weeks ago and fixed brats for 15 people. Took it to the fest in Tempe last week and my grand daughters made smores for the masses. Its about the only thing close to being portable in the BGE line up. -RP

    What Bordello said... :P

It is great for when the small and above are just too big.

    Like eating solo!!
  • It is great for searing a couple of pieces of meat. It is light enough to be portable. But I wouldn't say it substitutes for a small. You can do low and slow barbecue on a small. It would be hard to do on a mini.

  • Could I put a mini on a "glass" (read reenforced plastic) patio table?

Not Directly, but with the Mini Stand you probably could.

It would depend on the heat capacity of that glass. FRP is fairly heat resistant, but I would probably still put a paver between the egg and the table.
  • I bought the LG in early May and then sold both Webers and bought the additional Smally for the boss and me...
  • Before getting my mini I was told by the dealer it is just too small to be of use.

I bought it just because I kept going back and looking at it. Delayed impulse.

After getting it I found I could easily cook most anything for the wife and I as well as for another 3 of the grand kids.

I can cook up to 4 hours on a cup and a half of lump and that is amazing.

    Love my mini, GG
  • to say "It is" rather than "It's is".

Unless "that's is is" what you meant to say.

    You're assuming it's a she...

If it is not -- EWWWWWWW!!!
  • I do like him. I just think he needs to stop correcting everybody. Especially because when someone corrects him he gets awful upset. Why can he be perturned by someone correcting him, but everyone else needs to smile and take it from Mr. MENSA?

There are a lot of very smart people on this forum, and sometimes they make jokes, or mistakes, or even spell something wrong now and then. But they don't need to be followed around by someone constantly telling them every little error they have made, especially when that person makes his fair share of errors too.

I don't know how many times I have seen him use "then" for "than", or any number of minor mistakes like that.

I'm not a she, by the way.
    But here's a clue.

CW loves to google, this will give him the answer.

    Dear Mr. Dirty,
The mini is basically a Hibachi with a lid. I have a cast iron Hibachi from Lodge. Works great. The problem is, it is all metal and it will rust even though you wipe it down after it cools with oil. There is no way to put out the lump. It is also very messy. To attempt to keep it from turning into a hunk of rust you MUST put in a lot of time maintaining the thing. I have had my mini for about 4 months. It won't rust, lump goes out, very clean to work with. I use it for steaks, prime rib, racks of lamb, hot dogs, brats, Boboli pizzas, burgers (Bubba Burgers, what else),chicken for my salads, dog, Bulgogi, and artichokes. It is only myself and Little Chef. Now for low n slows, I have the large. Soon to add 2 more larges after Ocala. But one, if you don't like it, I am sure someone on this forum will be glad to take it off your hands. :woohoo: :woohoo:

I understand how it looks. But you have to also remember that a few of us on this forum have some pretty demented senses of humor. We are weird and we like it. Please don't take mine or Pete's playing around too seriously. We don't take ourselves that seriously. My handle has Bubba in it, and you may think of me as a red neck, however, I wake every morning at 4am and get ready to do battle on Wall Street. I wear a suit with french cuffs and all the crap that goes with it. I am far from being a red neck until I retire. So sit back, enjoy some ribbing, grab a drink. I am not smart, I am just smart enough to know better! Bubba-isum :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I never needed to google stike.

And stike boy please remember the MENSA comment came from someone who claimed I was NOT intelligent. My response to Sundown was prompted by his use of an alias to hide behind while he made his not always funny comments. I have refrained from commenting on yours because YOU told me I needed to loosen up.

Yes I have FUN correcting spelling errors and most times when I make mistakes and I am corrected I do poke back with my sick sense of humor. However, if that correction is vicious I will strike back in kind.

    So pfffftt!!! :woohoo:

I love my mini - it is perfect for a small family. I can do 3 chicken breasts (4 boneless), 3-4 salmon fillets, 2-3 steaks depending on the cut, 3-4 boneless pork chops, a whole package of brats or hot dogs, etc.

It is a great grill that heats quickly and uses a negligible amount of lump. It isn't going to produce a great brisket, but it is very nice to have. I've used mine for tailgating, and have left it at the office for weeks at a time to cook my lunch.

The mini was my 3rd egg, but I use it more than my medium, and especially in the winter as much as if not more than the large.
