What I'm Buying, What I'm Paying

I'm totally excited....finally getting my egg this weekend at PA eggfest!
First of all, if anyone's coming and needs anything from the NYC area (good bagels?), let me know and I'll bring it along!
Anyway, here's what I'm ordering. Does this sound like a good way to start my eggy new life? Do the prices (which include an Eggfest discount) sound ok?
Medium egg: $399.20
Medium nest $68
Ash tool $10.20
Place setter $32.30
Pizza Stone $22.95
Grill gripper $10.20
Woodburners says I can probably do without the castiron grill/grid. Thoughts?

Get the grill extender too. I find that there are many things that cook as well on the extended grill with a drip pan underneath as there are with the inverted platesetter. The upside is that it takes a little less time because the mass of the setter doesn't need to come up to heat. Also, lots of things cook nicely direct at the higher position.

jim, can't think of a better way to start & since you mentioned it, I have never had a real NYC bagel (only "NY Bagels" made everywhere BUT NYC); kinda like "Philly Cheesesteaks" made in 'anywhere' USA, just aint the same :side:happy in the hut

Do it Jimbo. Prices is cool, and I got me a CI grid for my med. bout two weeks ago. Enjoy. Miles out
-
thanks all
gdenby: ok, I'll add that on
Zippylip, "NY Bagels" made elsewhere is sort of like "Southern BBQ" made elsewhere! You gonna be there this weekend? If so, 1. how do I find you, and 2. sesame, salt, poppy, or plain?
Miles, how's the CIgrid working for you? Is it a can't-live-without?
Also, that vertical chicken roaster thingy is sort of alluring -
get the castiron gill now at the discount if you will grill steaksSalado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given another Mini to add to the herd.

Not that you asked me, but if you are the sort who likes using cast iron then you will probably enjoy the grates. I don't have any luck with CI - had them on my old gasser years ago and just hated them. But I'm a minority here...
And I have two vertical chicken roaster things but I find my self spatchcocking more than anything else.
If I was doing it all over again I'd not buy either! -
Unless you plan on setting your new Egg into a table, you'll really appreciate having the Egg Mates (folding, side tables). Where abouts in NY are you? Happy Eggin'! 8 - )

Make sure to find yourself a good pizzaria in your area(Im sure there are alot) who will let you buy pizza dough on the cheap. Its much quicker and easier than making it yourself and works beautifully. Even the stuff here in Georgia works well, I can only imagine how real NY pizza dough/crust will work on an egg.

Grill Gripper for $10 = Ripoff!
I got mine at the local restaurant supply store for $2.99. Only difference is no BGE logo.
Also, depending on any 3rd party accessories you plan the platesetter might not be needed. You'll need something for indirect, but I went with a raised setup on my MED which allows me to use a steel drip pan for indirect. -
rascal, are the egg mates proper height for egg on a nest?
thanks for the great pizza dough tip, Bacchus. Actually, most pizza here is bad. Most bagels, too. 95% of everything, after all, is crap. But at least here if you really know where to go, you can find treasure! -
For sure! A perfect place to park your tools, beverage, etc!

Don't know what happened...

Yes you can live without it, no prob. I just wanted another toy. You'll do fine till ??? Enjoy your new med., also I bought the med. WOO II from tjv in leiu of a platesetter, and the pan to go with it. See at eggaccessories.com or his new web site if it's up yet. ceramicgrillstore.com. of course it's www. Miles out.

I would get the CI grate. I've never taken mine off. And also forget the gripper and get a third hand from here. One of my best purchases.

Just an insider FYI - if you like NY Style crust, so by a Johnny's here in Atlanta. They will sell a large ball for $3 and you can easily stretch 2 pies out of it.
Mellow Mushroom won't sell theirs

Jim, must be someth'n in the water up there right? I'll be the short gray-haired guy butt'n in line to steal food everywhere    & I wouldn't be completely upset if a poppy bagel should make an appearancehappy in the hut
West Chester Pennsylvania -
Speaking from eggsperience, "short and gray haired" is good. That way, when you forget to "burp" the egg, the flames don't have to travel so far to reach your eyebrows.
