This is my first Egg, no gasket left that I can tell. The 4 cfm Guru fan is having no trouble locating leaks. This cooker is my most used and it works just fine w/o the gasket, I've had a new gasket sitting in my shop for 3 years now, think it will stay there indefinitely. -RP

do you think it is time to refinish the eggmates? :blink:SEE YOU IN FLORIDA, March 14th and 15th 2014 http://www.sunshinestateeggfest.com You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP

Morning Randy:
Hey, that's looks like my oldest Egg with the guru going (except I don't have mine in a nest). I agree that gaskets are over-rated. On both of my Large Eggs the gasket is basically non-existent. In my opinion if you can hold the temp you want, the who cares about a gasket.Have a GREAT day!

You got it, looking forward to seeing you guy in ATL. -RP

LOL...that pic looks like my Egg last night when I put a couple of butts on. My gasket's been toast forever, and I don't miss it a bit.
-
I feel MUCH better now!

That is what my egg looks like with a stoker on it for a low and slow. I have no trouble at 235 for hours if that is what I want to do.
You ship that bbq sauce you made? :woohoo:
Mike -
sorry but that is just sacrilidge.............

:P  :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Has Hotlanta approved this post? How are they going to sell the miles upon miles of suit collar felt - er, I mean precious felt? For years over 50% of all the "felt" sold in the US was manufactured here in IL. BTW felt is a marketing man's dream name for ground up old clothing! You know...the stuff including sh ivies donated to charities which are baled by the ton and then diverted to processors with huge grinders and vats. Nope, the vast majority of your donated clothes are not warming some 3rd world country child...Shocking I suppose - but it's the truth!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.
-
Are you saying we're gasketing our Eggs with processed boxers and briefs?
-
sure - some %, but they are all ground up and steamed so distinguishable "parts" would be impossible to identify!
'Re-gasketing America one yard at a time. -
That's it...I'm scrapin' off the little bit of gasket that's left.
-
You don't have to worry unlessen you get's Stumpbaby's old shorts, lol!The Naked Whiz

Right on!!! -RP

Max should be worried after talking to you tonight. :woohoo:

I had a car like that too

So after scraping my old bottom gasket off, replacing it w/ a Rutland, taking the dome off and scraping the top, firing up the egg and finding several leaks, suffering great angst all the while, I find that I'm not supposed to worry about the gasket? Whew, what a relief! And to think I was going to remove that dome again and re-gasket it w/ recycled BVD's.
-
SHHHHH! Anybody lookin'? I got these after market gaskets that work just FINE! But don't tell anyone.
-
>I had a car like that too.
Now that's funny! -
don't get too freaked out. it's wool felt that makes up the gaskets. i don't know many folks that wear wool underwear.
cotton felt is an entirely different thing, and not what your gasket is made ofed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
I'm just about ready to swear off Egg food for canned goods now.
-
Thank goodness, now I can take down my Craigslist ad.
-
