it sure is worth $200. Go for it. It does need updating.
You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP
  • Is there any way you can blow the pict.up? Be sure to check for deep cracks on the egg and on the dome, check underneath for any damage.but from here it looks good,if no major damage i would get it in a heartbeat before someone else does.you can always e-mail me his phone # :) ...
  • If it's the high temp. cermic (not terracotta clay)and glazed...I would have to say YES!
  • thanks for the quick replies
seller has not responded so it very well may be gone
Can you guys tell from the stand or the way it looks - what size it is?

Also - I was unaware they made different types of BGE's
    terracotta vs. high temp ceramic

what sort of updating can be done to it?

We can see that is a scissor hinge which goes back at least 8 or 9 years ago. There have been two upgrades since then and if need be you can retrofit to the present spring band. Besides checking the outside also check in innards for cracks. As long as it hasn't been abused an old egg is a good one.
Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time
  • Upgrade to new band, new hinge for easy lifting of the dome, new gasket if necessary.etc...the high-temp ceramics withstands higher temps than the old clay bge. if you get one get a ceramic bge..

Buy it, you will not be disappointed. it's a large.
update to the spring assisted band and it's just like a new one

Get it. I've had mine for 38 years and just now replaced the firebox. Am still using the old hinge assy. Check it over good for cracks. Really no updating to do. Except for the draft door and a daisy top.

I'm weeping, That is an exact replica of my first large.
Look for obvious damage and grab it.

I'll keep you guys posted- the consensus seems to be to buy it- which I most likley will if he calls me - and just update the hinge assembly

thanks for helping out a newbie- hope to be part of the BGE family soon
