Recycling Planks

Last night I planked some green beans on maple (it got mixed with some blue cheese and pecans to accompany some pork tenderloin and twice egged spuds -- see below!) and it got me thinking that perhaps once the plank can no longer support food, it may be cut up and used for smoking. Any views? If yes for maple, what about cedar?

Never tried it..by the time I finish with my planks they are usually smoked out, occassionally burned.. prolly wouldn smoke too well

good idea.....probably removing most of the burnt layer....and soaking them..not so sure about cedar?? Must try it though

CC,
Cedar spits like crazy when it is burned. Maple would be fine.

You bet you can. I don't use cedar at all, so can't say about that flavor. But after several uses, I split my alder and hickory planks and use them for flavor wood.
Hey, at $3 a plank, you need to get all you can out of them. :laugh:Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery
