Recycling Planks

Last night I planked some green beans on maple (it got mixed with some blue cheese and pecans to accompany some pork tenderloin and twice egged spuds -- see below!) and it got me thinking that perhaps once the plank can no longer support food, it may be cut up and used for smoking. Any views? If yes for maple, what about cedar?
