I was wondering if anyone out there had a ceramic cap that they wanted to get rid of.. I broke my cap. I could buy a new one but thought I would try here first.

I dropped my cap and it shattered. I asked my wife to pick up another one at the dealer next time she was out. How much could a rain cap cost after all. Turns out a rain cap can cost $50.00....ouch.
-
you don't want to know.

i lived with out mine for about 4 years it never hurt my cooking.. so do not need one... unless you just want one i finally broke down and got one last year just so it looks good on my back porch

I broke one too. It was a real genius move on my part. I had the cap on and the lid raised. I was cleaning out the Egg to do a long low and slow. Got the brainy idea of using a leaf blower to blow all remaining ash and dust out after I shoveled it. I inadvertantly hit the inside of the dome with the leaf blower and the cap blew right off onto the patio and broke into a few bazillion pieces. I got my replacement from the dealer. I don't think it was too expensive.
Call me persistant or maybe just not real bright, but I still put the leaf blower to use now and then. On low power and from several feet back it works wonders at getting the lump going shortly after you light it. -
I broke mine about a year ago, just slipped out of my hand.... that knobby grip wasn't working for me, so made a better handle from some stiff, insulated wire, just twisted it tight.
The JB Weld may not look so good, but it's held up nicely. I say it just adds to the character! Give it a try. -
$50 for a simple piece of cast ceramic with a glaze on it??? You sure some clerk wasn't just pulling her leg?
We ought to let Woodoggies get in on that side business - not as a copy cat, but a cool replacement rain cap! Boy do I see a new cottage business for somebody with a kiln! They could even be personalized and in other colors! -
I guess I was lucky to have just dropped a ceramic foot, which did indeed chip on the corner but still usable.
-
Ceramic feet are only $39.00 apiece, or $172.00 for the set of three.
-
me thinks you're pulling our leg, but again I'm serious an entrepreneur with a kiln could make ceramic caps as well as colored feet to match. That could appeal to people who like to trick out their eggs!
-
I'm only kidding about the feet. I really was charged $50.00 for the rain cap. :( I have been very careful when removing the egg cover since that day.
-
My dealer has a collection of feet that he gives me when I need them. I have ten of them now.
-
Like these?
-
Or these?
-
COOL do you make them? Sell them? Any other styles?
-
I managed to break one into two neat halves. JB Weld fixed it just fine.

I got those at a local dollar store. They are made to support flower pots. The material is either clay or ceramic. They will stand the heat outside the egg but they discolor when used in the egg to hold the pizza stone off the plate setter. Of course you can use the green feet that comes with the egg for the pizza stone if you have these for the egg.
