Dutch Ovens…[p]I love my egg but I am still hesitante to put my $300+ Le Creuset 16 qt over the burning lump and cherry wood fire.[p]Before Christmas I was at Wal Mart and picked up:
16 qt Stock Pot Ceramic but not Cast Iron for $22.00
8 qt Dutch Oven Ceramic Cast Iron for $39.00[p]Wal Mart also had Lodge Cast Iron and Ceramic Cast Iron.[p]I did 2 test hams before Christmass and final 10# ham. [p]So with all that ham I made 3 batches of 16 qt ham and bean soup as well as 8 qt of split pea & ham soup.[p]Both were fantastic.[p]If I can pick up the ingredients today, tonight is going to be Lobster and Cioppino which is fashioned after "Zuppa di Pesca"[p]Happy New Years to all.[p]Kent

Happy New Year to you too.
FWIW - I put my Le Creuset on the plate setter all the time. I have never used it direct over the lump, but indirect with no problems.
The white part of the logo is a little discolored and the bottom is browned a little bit, but who really cares. It is a great duch oven.
They ain't supposed to be pretty, just functional. -
Grandpas Grub,[p]Please post pics of the "Zuppa di Pesca". I haven't hard that since my great grandma passed back in 84 and took the recipe with her. Nobody wants to make it out of respect to her.

Grandpas Grub,
$300 and it won't survive over lump?!?!?![p]hehe I guess Ferarri dosen't make a very good daily driver either.[p]Just kidding with you of course. Ask Mad Max for some Le Creuset pictures/testimonials and you'll be cooking in no time!

Mike in Abita,[p]Earlier I was checking my spelling on Cioppino and came found a recipe that looks good.[p]Possibly you might like it...
http://www.premiersystems.com/recipes/cioppino.html[p]My Cioppino is very simple. I use Clam, Crab (lots of it) and shrimp. I have never tried putting any different types of fish in the soup.[p]Kent
