Thermometer calibration
I just got BGE Thursday and did a triple rack of pork ribs Saturday. They were good but a little dry (200 degrees for about 6.5 hours rotated once sprayed with apple juice a couple times used platesetter) Since I thought they were a little overcooked, I decided to check the thermometer by putting it into boiling water. It only registered about 150 - 160 F (~75 celcius)[p]I guess there is no way to adjust the thermometer but is it safe to assume it reads 40 degrees low and cook ribs at 160 ane everything else at 40 Deg less on thermometer than I really want... should I ask BGE for replacement or is it normal for thermometers to vary considerably?

newbge... for now,[p]Calibrate it using boiling water. there is a small but on the back of the thermo. Just turn it until it reads 212 (or the actual boiling point of water at your altitude).[p]I do mine every couple months. Normally don't need to adjust, but sometimes I do. It is a pretty easy process.

Fidel,
Thanks for quick response. The only thing I see is the hex nut around the sensor post. Is that what you twist?

<p />Newbge... for now,

This photo is from my ceramic FAQ entry on this topic. Yes, you put a wrench on the nut and turn the dial. Good luck![p]TNW

The Naked Whiz,
Thanks Friend. This forum is just about as impressive at the BGE. So many folks ready to help so quickly. I figured it would be a day or two to see a response. I have the thermometer on a sauce pan of water now with hex wrench ready as soon as it boils.
