Meater? Better option?

Looking for opinions on the Meater and other options?

I have both a single and 4 probe Meater, I have never had any issues with connection or battery life. Mine are about 5-6 years old and still going strong, I use them with large BGE's and in a stainless smoker when making sausage. I know others have had problems with connection and dropping signals during cooks, so far I'm happy

- Presently I have a two probe set of Thermoworks RFX, a two probe Typhur Gold, two probe Thermomaven X2 and two single probe Thermomaven P1’s.
- I could recommend each of the above ones and the good thing is that they are all at different price points. I believe Typhur and Thermomaven are one and the same with Thermomaven being a less costly option.
- I still have my Tappecue Air Probes and they keep performing well. Unfortunately Gina shut down Tappecue.

Thanks! I am leaning toward the TW RFX. I have the Tappecue also.....sucks that it is no longer supported.

My 2 probes from Combustion work great. Long battery life, over 13 hours, and fast recharge. The 8 sensors provide some capability to miss the right spot and still get a good reading.

If my current when my current system craps out, I will probably spring for the Combustion system.
I sure have bad luck with temp monitors/controllers; think I have five dead ones in a box now, when I say I "probably spring for" I mean if I was smart, I would just wing it for awhile.

The Meater is nice because it's completely wireless, but the connection can be inconsistent for some people. If accuracy and reliability matter most, a wired thermometer like the ThermoWorks Smoke is a great alternative.

I have a Meater and the connection is flaky as heLL. And I’m talking about just for starting the cook. So half the time I end up just not even bothering with it. I would definitely seek out alternatives.

I have a 4 probe TW RFX that runs rings around my 1st gen MEATER. I’ve done 2 cooks with the RFX and connectivity was great. One cook was a pulled pork and the other was a brisket both done on a a Big Green Egg. The only downside side I’ve found is the signal strength is excellent except it doesn’t like aluminum foil. Wrapping in foil kills the signal as the foil acts like a faraday cage. So now I just wrap the meat in foil and put the probe through the foil, problem solved.

Yeah, nothing is going to work with foil wrapped around it, so that's the only way to do it (to probe through the foil).
Does this connect direct to a wireless network, or via bluetooth?

For a long time I liked what they were doing but the new series I’ve broke every option in the line up at some point. I still think the app is the best but the hardware needs a serious remake.

ChefsTemp has a 50% sale …. For the money their stuff is hard to beat

I ordered 2 rfx probes when it all first came out but only 1 worked the other does in 20 minutes or less

I had a similar situation with a RFX probe. I contacted customer service and they shipped a new one.

Meater? Better option?
