I bought the 'genius' fan control system and have yet to test......
Any recommendations on first cook? Years ago when I first bought the XL, after decades of Weber and Hibachi, I managed a Pork Shoulder in about a 6 hour cook. Wife took it out about 0600 and wrapped and put in a cooler.....for Lunch. I don't remember what I did, or the temps, but it did turn out fine......pullable, even.....
Any idea what to try? Must be simple, since I have yet to figure out a reliable slow fire.....

Can’t go wrong with a Pork Butt or even a Chuck Roast for a relatively short” long cook “

Test it with no food first to see how the controller works and to see the inconsistency between the dome temp and the probe temp at the grate. See how your egg reacts when you increase the temp etc.

Thanks double! Terrific plan. But even before that? I'll unbox and hook it up on the LR table!
I won't worry about actual temps, but rather if I can get the fan to slow down at some setpoint, even if I have to use a match to heat up the probe......I'll be very carful not to 'cook it'...... -
Slather a butt in cheap yellow mustard and your favorite rub and GO FOR IT! Set to 225° (I know, not turbo), and plan for some SLAMMIN pulled pork!
so easy SO GOOD!Large BGE and Medium BGE

I usually set my target temp about 25 degrees lower than I want to avoid a tempBegger said:Thanks double! Terrific plan. But even before that? I'll unbox and hook it up on the LR table!

overshoot. Once stabilized, I bump the temp up 10-15 degrees at a time until I hit my preferred temp. -
Also good 'standard practice'.
I just hooked it up and ran a test on my outdoor table. Fan came up no readings I turned on BT on my phone and confuser. Entered some gibberish numbers and FINALLY got a connect. And tested by gently warming both the Pit and Meat probes to confirm temp readouts. It even draws a graph for the numerically impaired. Best Practices for such a test would be to use a coffee mug with boiling water. It'll cool very quickly but be stable for minutes at a time. But a match works, too......
