Meater Alternatives 2026 Update

I’ve looked at some of the older threads, but it doesn’t look like anyone has had to post about wireless meat thermometers since 2024. I almost bought a Meater Pro yesterday, but then started reading the very mixed reviews.  It looks like Thermo works has come out with a similar product and my Thermo pins have been flawless over the years. Has anyone used that product or another alternative to the Meater that they would recommend?

I’m looking mainly for something to monitor longer cooks and larger cuts of meat, and also be able to put a probe in regular cooks so I can walk down by the pool and hang out while things are grilling and not have to go back-and-forth checking internal temperatures.

App based is great, so I don’t have to carry around a receiver, and a can leave the house during longer cooks.

Thanks in advance for any experienced recommendations.

I currently have a Typhur, and it works fine, two probes, predictive timing.  I cannot get it to hook up to my Wifi, but that's been the case with every system I've tried (at least four at this point), but it's probably caused by the loose nut on my recliner.  Its RF connection is fine.  My only gripe with it is the probes are very large in diameter, hard to insert and leave a gaping hole.
If/when it goes Tango-Uniform, I will probably go with the unit from Combustion Inc, https://combustion.inc/?srsltid=AfmBOormSi6sNaJXFZqGoehl4o1HNWpXZu5FkAaEZKdvYQOXgfHUJqA-  Chris Young, the founder, also has some great cooking videos on EweTube, and he's very science-based and the features of his probe system look well thought-out (and the probes are quite slender).
This forum's @unoriginalusername has a ET channel called "Smoking Dad Barbeque" and he did a very detailed comparison between about six of them, I can't remember how old it is though, worth a watch.

I have the RFX. It's a quality product. I'd buy it again.

if i was going for wifi phone etc i would go with thermoworks signals with wired probes. i use their smoke and happy carrying the remote.

main reason is i see more risk than reward in wireless probes. keeping them charged, long term durability etc.

rfx says the probes run 52 hours after a 10 minute charge which is cool.

This isn't a Meater replacement, but Typhur now has a toaster oven that has the predictive, multi-sensor probe that tells the oven when to turn off, so the food hits its carry-over temperature at the perfect time.  Posting this just because I didn't know about it (the ad for the item is in the last two minutes of this video):

You might want to take a look at the Fireboard option for wireless thermos.

Thank you all for the, mostly, helpful responses.  Sorry to post a question and then disappear.  My oldest son has been in the hospital and will be for the next month or so…so, I’ve been back and forth, nonstop.

I do agree with the concern about long term reliability of wireless probes.  They seem really cool, but I’m not overly concerned with the cool factor. Wired probes are fine with me.

I have two instances where I want to be able to monitor remotely without having to carry around a receiver:

On longer cooks, I don’t want to be tied to the house all day. I may want to run some errands, monitor temps from a kids baseball game, run to Home Depot, etc. Something that can give me internal temp and grill temp from my phone would be awesome.

Even on shorter cooks, where I may be smoking chicken or doing a tri-tip low and slow before I reverse sear it, I gently like to pour bourbon or crack up in a beer and walk down to the pool, which is about 40 feet behind my house. I have a Breeo fire pit out there and three TVs on the wall of my boat garage, under a covered roof, And that is where I do about 99% of my sports and TV watching.  So instead of running back-and-forth over and over, I’d like to just be able to glance above home and monitor temperatures.

On my back deck, under a covered roof, I have a large BGE, XLBGE, Blackstone griddle, Recteq 380 deluxe bullseye, and a Recteq 590.  For most of my longer cooks, I use my Eggs.  My large has been with me nearly 20 years.  But, especially for chicken and fish, the recteq pellet grills put out one hell of a result.   If I find myself wanting to really be lazy, I will smoke chicken for a while and then crank up the temperature to crisp up the skin. Same with salmon. The whole thing with the pellet grills is, I can stay down at the pool and change the grill temperature on my phone, without ever getting out of my seat. Definitely not as skill dependent, as they are basically an Easy Bake Oven for grown men.  But they still put out good food.

I have a Smobot.  I can keep track of pit temp and food temp on my phone while running errands.  I can also change pit temp remotely from my phone.
