Pellet Thoughts

Good question. I don't notice any acrid or unpleasant taste. In fact I prefer poultry cooked in pellet smoker, leftover doesn't taste like ashtray when reheated. To each his own, we are not big smoke fans.MN-Egger said:Neighbor across the street has a pellet smoker and I have not asked him about it yet but I notice plumes of smoke every so often. I assume it feeds pellets in in a timed sequence? If true, is there any concern about VOC's with adding in new pellets over the cook?
My two cents...The new pellets don't burn immediately, they travel slowly through the heated auger tunnel before reaching the burn pot. The puffs of smoke may not be all smoke, probably some steam is in the mix too.canuckland -
As mentioned before, the “smoke effect” is enhanced with use of a pellet tube (I still use the amazen). Never a VOC issue.Large BGE and Medium BGE

I bought 2 PIT BOSS. Larger for Texas and smaller for Florida.Kept for about a year or so. To me they cooked ok (not any better than Egg) BUT ARE A ROYAL PAIN IN THE ASS TO CLEAN.I know this is too late for you but for anyone else PLEASE see what you have to do to clean it.I gave away the larger one here in Texas and the smaller is still in the garage in Florida because i have not run into anyone to give it.
I can do anything on an Egg i could do on the PB just have to watch a little closer.Plus i don’t do long cooks at all after discovering TURBO so just no need.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given another Mini to add to the herd. -
I dunno. My next door neighbor had zero luck with his traeger, and switched to an BGE, and a friend of mine had an XL BGE, and switched to two pellet grills, but kept the egg for special cooks. Both got into heated arguments at my house drinking my wine, while complimenting/criticizing my ribs, and since stopped talking to one another.I have had food off both, enjoyed every bite. I run an XL and a mini max. I am good with the process and results with the egg, being retired so investing time is no issue. One thing though, that I do enjoy is taking my mini max on trips, tailgating, camping. Not very sure of the portability of the pellet smokers, they may have a small one, but can you plug it in when in primitive environments?I know we can take cheap inexpensive mini charcoal grills, BTDT, I am ok with it, but My Beautiful Wife, likes food off the BGE better, so that is how we roll. A happy wife, means no toaster in the tub for me."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Yes understanding alliances are importantA good friend will help you hide the body, a BGE friend will show up with a shovel and not ask questions. Then pours the bourbon."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber
