@alaskanassasin We got around 8 inches of snow and a couple of inches of sleet.  The "all snow" line kept moving north and eventually stopped moving around 10-15 miles north of the Ohio River.  As you experienced the snow was a very dry powder but after the sleet it was a significantly heavier combo.  
We might see temperatures clear the freezing mark by Wednesday Feb 4th. This snow isn't going anywhere for a while.

Just 15 games left of the season, where does the time go? The top three have pulled away, forming an eight point gap to 4th place that is currently the berth of Man Utd - of all teams!.  Ten points then covers all points South, until 15th and then further down the chain the teams in 16th the 19th have all shown an uptick in forms recently.  And then there’s Wolves at the foot, whose renaissance may have ended already, accruing 70% of their total points in four games that contained only one victory.    So who is revising their ambitions to survival and who is forming the base for Euro charge? Let’s find out.

Saturday

Brighton vs Everton,  fragile away form has scuppered the Filthies this season while their guests this week can reflect on a rebuild job more or less done after a handful of wretched seasons.   Few goals predicted, and a game that even hardened fans might considered converting to a ‘duvet day’. 1-0

Leeds vs Arsenal, a first home defeats last week for eh Gunners has generated shock waves but perhaps a reminder of their mortality was necessary to refocus efforts on the basics and getting the job done.  Still four clear and this is s tricky trip to Yorkshire, their hosts have shown much greater stability and are inching clear of the relegation battle. But, 1-2

Wolves vs Bournemouth, the Cherries are unbeaten in three and thats great news of them.  A trip to Wolves should add a fourth, but it’s not in a foregone conclusion.  If the Old Gold get in front, they won’t lose. So, 1-1

Chelsea vs West Ham, two from two for the Hammers, almost unthinkable a few weeks ago.  But the Chels’ are firing on all cylinders again and this trip to the West End could be a shuddering bump to earth that keeps pressure on the East End lads.  2-0

Liverpool vs Newcastle, 6th host 9th and each team have struggled for consistency, which would otherwise have been foreseen in August.  Potentially the game of the weekend, with subtext of ill-feeling about recent transfer dealings. 3-2

 Sunday, 

Villa vs Brentford, it’s now entirely normal to see Villa in the top three, that’s how well their boss-man has done over the last few seasons.  The Bees have performed their trademark parabolic performance curve and are now on the regression side of the hump.  2-1

Man United vs Fulham, so the Cottages quietly assembled a good six weeks of results and have crept north up the table.  7th feels a couple of places too high, but they have 34 points and that makes relegation a very very unlikely outcome, and that matters to mid-table teams. I doubt they’ll get anything out of this one though, against newly effervescent Utd. 2-0

Forest vs Palace, ah, the plain goes on.  The mighty Eagles have been in epically poor form - compensating for going 20 unbeaten at the end of last and beginning of this season. There’s bad blood between the two teams and the hosts in better form.  Not looking rosey. On the plus side, Forest played in Europe last night and that can knock some edge off  teams, while Palace slowly re-assemble a credible string 11 after many injuries. 1-1

Spurs vs Man City, one of these teams being 2nd is no surprise but Spurs in 14th feels about 8 out of whack.  Anything could happen here, apart from a  comfortable home win.  1-3.

 Monday 

Sunderland vs Burnley, a 33 point haul at this stage is well ahead of the Maccems expectations and 15 more games to yield 7 more, to attain the market standard 40 for safety feels inevitable. The Clarets are not losing as many as they were, but still reside ten points from safety -  and this deep in the season that indicates only one outcome.  Can they be a disruptor, though? Winning this would be just that, but in reality a draw would be a good result. 1-0.

The transfer window closes Monday and then we’re on the final descent to May for the final trimester - with reputations to be made and lost.  Strap in lads.

It has been a crazy busy couple months… for example last Saturday my husband killed a nilgai just north of the border and we drove home to beat the snow storm… a storm that closed the local game processors. Spent the last few days butchering a 625lb critter… then I taxidermied a baby armadillo for the museum… then I made a bow tie for our polar bear to wear for a black tie event this weekend… then I went to make steaks for dinner and the much neglected MM is so moldy it needs a high temp burn out 😕. I’ll be back to posting sooner or later. Retirement is chaos.

would kill for a polar bear hide, my legal pre-1972 stuff for tying fishing flies is just about used up. its getting pretty much impossible to find

Prepping to host guests this Friday night. We won’t have much prep time, as I’m away all day Friday. I liked it so much when I made it not long ago that I’m doing an encore of the sous vide chicken confit. Really enjoyable recipe. Prepped the legs in the bags with all ingredients, will pop into the freezer now, and will dunk into the bath Friday morning as I’m heading out the door. I double bagged them because I didn’t trust the seals. Quick broil when the guests arrive and the protein is done.
