Sold my old CNC router and waiting for the newer/larger one to arrive. Decided to add a 3D printer to be able to print custom clamps/holddowns.
Evidently it is customary for the first print to be a small boat called Benchy to benchmark the machine after calibration.

Fun. Friend of mine has been into this for a few years. When we were at their house a few weeks back, they let my daughter pick a bracelet and printed it as we hung out. He’s printed me a few razor blade holders over the years too. Very cool.

Currently in the process of printing a segmented winged dragon for my granddaughter. Several hours left before it's finished:

Well guys while you are making fun things here is a practical product made with them - my temporary set of “permanent dentures” Now they are producing a mock up of the next to final set. It’s been a 13 month ordeal, but one that I knew up front and committed to.

I was going to add a picture but I’m using my phone while I sit here in an ER due to a fall I took this afternoon. I’ve been waiting for 3 friggen hours for some dr to tell me if the CT scan shows if my head is hollow like some people swear it is!

@RRP - First up; Early Saturday night even at 3 hours is not unreasonable unless you present with a heart attack or have blood flow from bullet induced impact encounters.
However, gravity induced falls at our age (and yes, you are a bit more seasoned) that suggest a road trip to the ER need to be promptly addressed.  I hope the outcome devloves into nothing more than a bruise and headache.
I'm sure we can picture the glossy, suitable for framing dentures pic and are quite pleased with your withholding that for future disclosure.
    Be well, my friend.

Benchy looks awesome,  you must have a pretty good printer!
I’ve been having fun with my son for some years with a Creality CR-6 SE. We mostly use it for robotics projects.
Great hobby and sometimes even useful for fixing little household issues.

  • Sorry to see that, Ron. Not fun being in hospitals. My personal record for ER was a 17 hour wait for stitches.

    Wishing you a quick recovery.

It's all good Ron, hopefully CT results came back clear and you're on the mend.

This finished up printing late last night for my granddaughter:

16 1/5" long fully articulated - pretty cool. If you zoom in close you can see some of the layers aren't perfectly aligned - trying to figure out how to fix that.

Clearly from one who knows.  The big pieces are easy enough to avoid.  It's the little Lego ones that do pack a punch.
