2nd place Kentucky State Fair - Double Crusted Apple Pie

YukonRon
YukonRon Posts: 17,261
My Beautiful Wife entered her apple pie into the 2025 State Fair….and received second place for double crusted fruit pie. I had to be the test subject for two weeks prior until she got the one she wanted. I added 12 pounds and my blood turned to sugar. Don’t know how I survived.

It was a very fun event. Immediately after that we went to Bourbon and Beyond, 4 day event outdoor concerts. This year’s lineup, IMO, was the strongest yet.

Now that is surfacing with true style.  Congrats to Suzy for the win.  That looks incredible.  I'm sure it was tough being a test kitchen taster for so many iterations...But someone had to enjoy it.  Were you allowed a second taste with ice cream?  That would be suitable compensation.   =)
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

    Well, yeah. Guilty as charged.

She is fired up, and next year she wants to enter several categories, so we will need volunteers. The 2nd place ribbon came with a cash prize of $5.43. We (I) spent about $125.00 to get this freakin’ pie to the fair. Plus bad health practices every step of the way. 😆😇

She is a baking machine. I have to watch out sine we have retired, that I do not choke to death, jamming all the delicious items she bakes. She is teaching me, and it has been kind of fun.

The chemist in me is running spread sheet for predictions of the exact time the dough should rise is driving MY BEAUTIFUL WIFE nuts. She goes by experience, and, well, she is not a fan of predictive analytics. Especially my micro management. That, I suppose is something I need to stop.

    I will work on it.

John, thank you. She was so upset she lost to a strawberry rhubarb, but I tempered it with she had the best apple pie…she was ok, then. The girl has got pride, I will give her that.

I will be doing some on the egg soon, as you have inspired me to do so. That post you made about baking has been a driver for me. Thank you, she deserved the praise.

Thank you. It was tough going, for me having to sit there and staple pie, one just a bit different from the other for days.

Hey bud! Hoping all is well. It was the coaching and testing, nah, it was her skill set that had it do so well. She has a gift, and I am here for it!

    Great to see you again.

  • Late to the party. That’s an incredible pie and congratulations to her on her 2nd place finish. How did you enjoy bourbon and beyond? I saw a few videos about it and the lines looked crazy long.

I really enjoyed it because there were so many musical artists Suzy and I enjoy.

We upgraded our tickets which allowed us privileges of short lines and better services.

We did wander about frequently as they had 4-5 stages with entertainment going full bore from opening to close each day. Lot of great energy and folks just got along very, very well.

I met people from Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, NZ, South America, and the Polynesia groups of islands.

The hardest thing is the weather, the heat and the humidity. There are few shaded areas and it can be problematic. I dressed as cool as I could, lots of sunscreen(they gave it away by the bag loads, plenty of water refill stations, so you can stay hydrated.

the food is exceptional, the portions are substantial and it is not Mc Donald’s pricing. But worth what you paid. Alcohol is available everywhere, and thc is as frequent as the music as everyone shared.

It was an awesome experience this year, compared to years past, and we will do it again.

Heck if there is a day you choose not to go, let me know, and you can come over and hang and I will cook and watch football with you.  Mi casa, su  casa.

Send me a pm if you have questions and we will chat.
