Integgrated Nest Handler Felt Melt

Picked up a smokin deal on a used integrated handler “haunted” with pre-smoked felt.

Basically 90% off of retail and only a family member (not the egger who now has a table build setup) was there at pickup — so not an opportunity for the back story and just rolled with it.

No damage to the metal and the felt came right off—put one back for the pic—  my goal is to let this be home to the next used / cheap egg.  also seems like the diameter of the melt is different than a large egg. 

1) Does anyone know if the felt melt is common and a concern or just replace with gasket scraps and roll?  

2) I want to use this at a place where there’s about 2” drop from the porch to the deck. Any feedback on if that’s reasonable journey or too risky?  how secure is the egg when it’s mounted in?

    @Buckwoody Egger re: your 1st question, you could consider 2 layers of Rutland strips on each spoke, to create an air gap, of sorts.

    thanks yall — yes the charred felt was pretty much gasket thickness with an adhesive strip. i found a video for the hq assembly instructions that shows it as standard install. 

    coincidentally the eggtoberfest demo package this year is this setup.  that will drop a bunch into the market!

    we have put eggs on feet at the edge / perimeter forever. i don’t think the felt needs to go so far into the center.  it seems like the felt is to soften the bumps encountered during rolling the egg around. 

    the table nest (stationary with no felt) has a slight air gap in the center and the contact closer to the perimeter.  

    the hq advice to always “pull” the egg/handle is good. i have an old screened porch to deck 2” drop - that i hope is not too much opportunity for a jostling of the ceramic behemoth during normal use.
