Need new bands in Thailand

As stated I am in Thailand and one of my bands broke (medium BGE) due to rust after 15 years. I am having difficulty finding what I need exactly and also difficult to find a dealer that ships internationally. Since this will be expensive for shipping I would prefer to  change the hinge assy also.

Unfortunately only Kamados are available here.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Mike

The diameter of the medium changed at some point years ago. Double check to ensure that the new band assembly will work on your egg.

Thanks for the comments, will check the diameter and go from there. With the uncertainty I am now leaning toward a new Kamado.

BTW, the Amazon vendor doesn’t ship to Thailand.

I am surprised that the mothership does not ship to international locations not served by their network.

  • Most items will ship, I have used Amazon quite often. This one does not. I contacted dealers in Australia and they won’t ship to Thailand. Really I am not sure why since I pay with a u.S. credit card.

I was talking about the headquarters in Atlanta Georgia - maybe @HannahGreeneEgg can give some advice here.

other than opening up Thailand's first dealership, that may be your best bet.

well speaking as one who ships internationally then postage can be extremely costly even for a couple ounces in a small package so a big heavy box by comparison could easily be a deal killer!

  • After living overseas most of my life I become accustomed to high shipping (and customs) charges. My BGE is still in excellent shape so I don’t really care what it costs me to fix it. With that said I can get a similar size Kamado for less than 600 USD. I am a fan of the BGE but this brings to light that they need a better hinge system. I am going to the Kamado dealer on Wednesday, one thing I will be looking at is adapting their hinge system to the BGE, probably a long shot but worth a look.

if I buy the Kamado the BGE will be donated to my wife’s sister to use as a grill.

Maybe I need to design and build a crane type system to raise and lower the lid…haha.

what year is your medium and did you register for warranty?

link above may help measure if year is unknown.

seems like your best bet is contacting HQ and attempting a warranty claim unless someone who knows runs across this post.  it wouldn’t be under warranty but it would get the ball rolling.

  • yes new hinge is great — if the new improved one fits and works, maybe find a friend to ship it for you (if that is even an option).

I don't mind assisting in shipping one to you. If you want you can private message me your address and I can get some quotes.

I have to ship a Daisy wheel to Alaskan assassin yet too! I have not forgotten.

For whatever it is worth CGS is another source for the band though they don't ship out of the USA. Before I have intervened and then the foreign egger would order and pay for their band and have it sent to me here in IL. Then I would merely cover up the shipping label with the foreign buyer's label after having slipped a Rutland gasket inside the box and then ship the band to the buyer. BUT due to the high cost of postage I take the box to the post office to get the exact postage it is going to cost and then have the buyer pay me that amount first using an Amazon gift card, which is a method which makes payment a breeze! I just use my 23 year reputation as being trustworthy in this roundabout transaction.

    howdy Ron,
We quit shipping international because of to many chargebacks, especially with orders going to freight forwarders here in the USA. I would be cautious on how you proceed.

  • Thank you all for the comments and possible solutions for shipping. I spoke with the Kamado dealer here in Thailand and he is going to help me find a solution for the bands. It may or may not work out so my BGE will become a basic grill. More than likely whether I get a fix for the BGE or not I will buy a Kamado.  At least I can get support for the Kamado.

The comment on not shipping international in my opinion is just an excuse. I have shipped high dollar items from the USA and Europe with no problem at all.

    Thanks again to all,
    TB

i shipped over a mini papermill to china once, it got held up in customs for about 6 months.....then they shot it before delivering it. my customer here had to go over and replace the computer system and some heaters. i wont even get into the pricing and markups involved, was about double what the customer paid for the unit.
