Figured this was the best spot to leave this kind Canadian gesture… we have a joke sign (Cash Bar) with a tip pig underneath that we use to hold our weird bits of currency from different countries. Found this thank you card after our party last night and now have a toonie in the pig 🥰.

A sad evening as the sun sets on this bottle kill EH Taylor. Took quite a while to get at MSRP (I may not be on the planet for the next find) and I am not yet ready to pay the heirloom secondary market pricing.
But it is Uma Thurman tasty!

We had a bad fire in SLC that took out about six businesses in a building built in the 1920s.  One of the businesses was a place called Whiskey Street, who had supposedly one of the largest collections of whiskey in the country (in Utah?!)

    https://www.saltlakemagazine.com/salt-lake-city-main-stree-fire/

They said on the news today that most of the collection was saved, as they were stored in metal mesh cages (which were also credited with keeping part of the ceiling from collapsing).

Kinda interesting reading their menus and history on their website:

Really great food and drink in that area.  I moved away in 2022 but pre covid I would stay near there for work a lot.  White horse and Whiskey street I think had the same owner.  Great food, really good drinks (considering Utah), cool atmospheres.

@BeanHead - Bold statement right there: " Excited to try something new! A gift from one of our recent party guests and surprisingly a bourbon I have not had before. "  There are so many distilleries that you could try a new one every day for well over a 5 year period and not see the finish-line. Multiple sources document more than 2000 new distilleries have been established since 2000.  Game on as that would be quite an expensive undertaking...
Not as rampant as the craft beer movement but...🥃😁
Your guests know how to acknowledge the efforts of the hosting household.  Congrats to them and you for the evening.  Such social norms are slowly fading at our loss.
    Off soap-box.
Crack that bottle and have at it. Cheers 🥃

@lousubcap I suppose I should clarify that most of our friends gift the standard stuff (not a gripe just an observation) and this is something I have not seen in the store. It is super easy to drink and I would grab another bottle or two if I found it locally.

@BeanHead - as I mentioned you are fortunate in that your company appreciates the effort involved. No need for clarification as even gifting the standard stuff is on the downhill slope.
Don't get me started on the meaning and value of "RSVP."  I have held small group lectures on what RSVP means and why it matters and the first sessions were some 40 years ago.  My how we are so self focused these days.  Likely does not apply to those in your orbit and I'm sure you are grateful for that.
Off another mini soap-box.  Enough for one night... B)

@lousubcap my biggest gripe is someone with a restrictive diet RSVPs and I orbit the menu around them then they do not show….

My wife and I have been going through [again] the Jesse Stone movies with Tom Selleck. Just well acted and directed. A real pleasure for both of us. Selleck plays an alcoholic cop in a small town who drinks a lot of Johnnie Walker Red Label.  I thought I'd join him.

@MasterC - great score right there.  The best 10 yo bourbon on the planet IMO.  Couple that with the new ride and you have got to be truly enjoying life.  As it should be!

Just picked up a bottle of Suntory (the Japanese brand) Yamakazi Single Malt Whiskey.    The 12 year is way out of my price range so this'll do.    I already have and love Hibiki, 'Japanese Harmony'.    This comes in a unique 24 sided bottle.

Give me a week to cycle thru and process a photo.   The box is as yet unopened....

  • I was able to check off a bourbon goal this week. I got to go on a barrel pick. One of my favorite Whiskeytube channels offered a spot on the pick team to their members. I was the runner up in the drawing. The day before the pick I was contacted as someone had come down with the flu and couldn’t attend. I was elated.

It was a pick at the Copper Craft/ Joseph Magnus distillery in New Holland Michigan, so about a 3hr drive for me. The rest of the people were. Coming in from Indiana and Ohio. One guy flew in from Seattle!  We got to sample 4 barrels and one immediately stood out as the leader with a strong second place. The third and fourth were meh.

We got to buy some hard to find bottles in the shop after our pick was over. We spent about 2hrs there sampling and talking with the distillery team. It was a great experience. A pic of the signed barrel head. We hope it will be bottled before December.

@Ragingirishman2 - that is definitely "better to be lucky than good" right there.
    Sounds like a great experience.

That’s unfortunate. Meanwhile in Louisiana, we can get drive thru daiquiris and margaritas…..tape on the lid and straw separately lol
