Yes, and yes.
You'll get a variety of responses. It will boil down to how/what you cook, and what your budget is.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
I have one, I may use it once every 18 months.
I really only use it for a pure overnight cook just so I get a little more comfort while sleeping. I dont really do a lot of "low and slow" cooking so maybe thats why I think its a finnicky little bugger.XLBGE, LBGE, Charbroil Gas Grill, Weber Q200, Old Weber Kettle, Rectec RT-B380, Yeti 65, Yeti Hopper 20, RTIC 20, RTIC 20 Soft Side - Too many drinkware vessels to mention.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting. The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president. -
Smobot, runs the egg the way god intended it.South of Columbus, Ohio.

ThermoWorks Signals and Billows here. No complaints, does exactly what it’s supposed to do

I respect any and all opinions. Yes, I have no doubt electric fans can facilitate in many ways; they also carry many potential points of failure that could easily complicate a crucial cook. For me, low tech is the best tech. One of the reasons I love the Egg.

As said by @GrateEggspectations - learn to run the cook w/o any external assistance aka manual so that when the powered assist fails you are able to bring it home.
So get comfortable with the assist failure option and then enjoy the upgrade. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
one of the main attractants for me about the egg is it's simplicity.
It's a bowl of fire.
It really takes me back to scouting when everything was over a fire you built yourself from wood you chopped down in a fire pit you dug. Nothing automatic about that cooking.~~
Large BGE, Jonesing for a MiniMax -
I used a FlameBoss 200 for a couple of years, and definitely liked it.
Now I use a Smobot and like it even better.Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning. -

I had a stoker unit and used it for several years..
I have smoked BBQ for many years and, in my opinion, there's minimal difference between cooking 200 degrees to 250 degrees..there's minimal difference between cooking at 250-300...I've found things can get sideways when cooking BBQ if thermometer starts creeping above the 300 mark..
that being said, its a fun gadget to play with on your phone nowadays...
grain of salt..

I am totally addicted to my Thermoworks Billows and use it almost 100% of the time

Flameboss is an amazing kit, I've been using it for many years and have no complaints at all. When yours having a big bbq you don't need to worry about temps anymore, just drink and have fun with your guests.
