What a great trip.Acn said:
Thank you, we got in Thursday afternoon. We’re in Paris until Tuesday, then off to Prague, with Munich and Amsterdam to follow.GrateEggspectations said:
Wife and daughter just did that trip. And just this morning, I was thinking to myself that you hadn’t been that active (no shade).Acn said:

This post was a nice surprise. If you haven’t done Prague before, Praha 2 had some great, off-the-beaten-path restos that were excellent and were dirt cheap, in our experience about ten years back. Have great memories of pork knuckles and goulash while a musician played accordion beside us and our five month old slept soundly on a bench late into the night. Ate and drank like royalty and spent maybe $20 CAD (!!!).Didn’t do the Heineken tour in Amsterdam but after hearing reviews from family, I regret not having gone.Whatever you do, I have no doubt you’ll have a great time. Photos please. 😁 -

Nice. Did you do the rims? A lot of people overlook them, but they add a nice pimp factor and help prevent dirt from sticking.ryantt said:Polished the wife’s car… came out ok.

Cleaned the wheels and dressed the tires with superior products. As for the face of the wheels I used PDP wax.GrateEggspectations said:

Coming home from North Dakota and in the middle of nowhere I see a yellow looking house with barbwire around it in a middle of a field. I zoomed in for a picture and didn't think much of it when taking a picture but curiosity got the better part of me. I just checked the photo with Google Lens and it came up as nuclear missile launch facility during the Cold War! It has been deactivated since 1997 but pretty cool when doing some research on it. The house itself was built over a couple different bunkers.

A model and picture of the bunkers.

My family and I ended up staying in Fargo Friday night and watched some awesome lightening light up the sky. A short time later my phone goes off right as I fall asleep with a tornado warning alert. Five minutes after my phone goes off Fargo's city tornado sirens go off. Fortunately the hail and the real nasty stuff stayed away. I wish I could say that was the same for everyone else but tornadoes did touch down in other areas around the state. It was nasty. Winds were recorded at 120 mph in North Dakota/Northern Minnesota.
A picture of the tornado I found online.
A few pictures of some damage I saw driving back home today.

Yup, that's an old LCF; I was the OIC for Technical Engineering from '92 to '95, and my team dispatched to the LCFs and the Launch Facilities (LFs, the actual missile silos) a few times a week to troubleshoot maintenance issues. The "house" is actually part of the LCF; it housed the cops who patrolled the "missile patch", had bunk rooms for overnight stays, a lunchroom, and a rec/TV room.WeberWho said:Coming home from North Dakota and in the middle of nowhere I see a yellow looking house with barbwire around it in a middle of a field. The nearest bunker in your bottom photo housed all the power and cooling systems for the site, including large batteries and generators that kept the site running in case commercial power was lost. The right bunker is where the two Ops officers were, monitoring the ten LFs assigned to that Flight and waiting for the red phone to ring. They would enter and pull a thick blast door closed behind them, for a 24-hour duty. There was a single bunk so they could each sleep for 8 hours, and the blast door was opened for meals and for maintenance teams. The 321st Missile Wing at Grand Forks AFB was shut down soon after I left (the three remaining Wings are at Minot ND, Malmstrom in MT, and FEWarren in Wyoming.
After I left Active Duty in '95 I got a job with TRW at Hill AFB here. Along with certifications for all nuclear weapon support equipment, I was put on a "Black Hat" team where we tried to figure out ways adversaries or terrorists could gain access to those LCFs and either arm/launch, or disable/destroy our ICBMs. Having experience gaining access to the LCFs was very useful to that team, as none of the other engineers had field experience. That was an interesting job, and our final report resulted in 35 hardware, software, and procedural changes to make the ICBM wings more secure.

Got back from a great trip diving in Mexico - stopped in border town on way into states and had Tepache and Horchata out of a cooler being served along side the road - never had Tepache before, but chatted with another guy who stopped and he highly recommended it - fermented pineapple rinds and skin. Was absolutely phenomenal, going to add it to my learn to make list. A weekend of diving, tacos, and margaritas. Best way to spend some time. Absolutely love Mexico.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Blistered some shishito peppers from the garden. First harvest. Had about 8 total. They should do much better now that Satan has arrived.

Smaller than people realize.Weeks back, my daughter - a child - was being jostled about by the crowd, so the security guard pulled her aside and gave her unfettered, solo access while the rest of the crowd remained behind the barrier. Got photos. Hopefully, a moment she’ll never forget. -
