Nice! Love my VP215 bought in 2014. You just reminded me I'm long overdue for an oil change.

If you don't need a big machine, the Avid Armor USV20 has been my mainstay for about five years now. Great machine.

@lkapigian was a reluctant hold out if I recall. It also looks like you can get the 230 for what I paid for the 215… swarm swarm swarm!

No kidding, unless I forgot to update my log last time, my most recent change was in Jan 2024 😊. Thankful it didn't die on me.
Moving the drain nut over the edge is way easier than raising the beast on blocks...

The used oil looks fresh but look can be deceiving. Misplaced the filler bottle that came with the unit, turned out to be a blessing because the glue syringe without the needle nozzle works better imo...

I better stop snoozing the six-month oil change reminder email repeatedly, just do it  =)

Literally any bag will work , you can reseal pretty much everything… I just get mine in Amazon, Pennie’s on the dollar from external sealer bags …I will reseal whatever the product came in

Yes - I think for the  sold product we’re going to standardize, and are hoping a 4 mil “zipper” will be available. Easiest for opening for the consumer etc.

I've purchased clear and the clear/gold bags from Vac Sealer Unlimited in the past. Bags are good quality, never had any issues to date. If you use these for a business a case of 1000 is perfect, if your a home user (like myself) 1000 will last many years.. Shipping will bump the per bag cost by a few cents, but they are heavy!!!

The machine is currently perpetually being delivered in two days by ten pm.  Tonight? No. Two more days.. always two more days.

i called Amazon CS and politely let them
have it. They will figure out how to make it up to me. Starting with an email with about ten phone numbers on it.

Anyone need a live person at Amazon CS?

You nailed it right there. The last I checked a while back, assorted sized bags in small quantities are spendy around here. I get my bags from a restaurant supply place where large bags are sold by 1000's, smaller bags of single size come in case of 3000!

Since I have lots of free time on hand, I bought a case of 1000 10x15 (largest size that vp215 can accommodate) and cut it into 1/2's 1/3s 2/3s 1/4s, not as needed but in small quantities in advance, the retired Foodsaver is perfect for sealing cut edges.

The old sealer we have will
be tasked with that very duty.

Good idea - I’ll check restaurant depot for vac bags.

The largest bag vp230 can accommodate is 12x15. Before you commit, make sure you're comfortable with making your own custom sized bags. What style is your old sealer? Both of mine are the old style with raised lid, to minimise bag movement I use a book to raise the bag to the same level as the sealing strip. Not sure if the newer upright models can seal the edge as precisely.

Amazon has lost our delivery, cancelled the order, and promises they’ll have a newly ordered machine on our porch by ten pm Thursday.

I dared the CS rep to put money on it. He refused.

That sucks (no pun intended), I wonder if the weight has anything to do with it. I recall having similar delivery/cancellation/oos issues with Amazon back in 2014, took over a month to get my vp215 IIRC. Paid $1k, family thought I was crazy 🤪

I'm not familiar with upright Foodsaver like yours. Does it seal at the edge or about an inch from the edge? If latter, you'll be sacrificing some real estate on one or two sides when making custom sized bags. With a flatbed unit, I can position the seal line precisely.

I just was going to say something similar.  The "replacement" shows up as promised and two weeks later, the original finally makes it.  We have had experiences with freight forwarders and a skid just gets put aside in a shipping hub somewhere.  It takes weeks or months to locate.

This HAS happened to us before. Amazon threatened to cancel our Prime if we didn’t either ship it back to them or pay up. They didn’t take kindly to me relaying federal law on the matter.

There’s a hilarious YouTube of a dude that looks about 80 struggling for eight minutes of his ”unboxing” video to try and get the machine out of the box. Poor bastard.

That was one ACCURATE  YouTube video lol

You’re correct - there’s at least an inch of waste.

We’ll be donating that machine and leftover extra bags to a local. There’s a “freecycle” style Facebook group I’m in that will cooperate up and hopefully be able to use it.
