Where do you get wood?

I went to Fruita Wood today to try to place one last order and they were sold out of everything. Now that they are closing shop, I was wondering where everyone gets their wood chunks for smoking. I did a quick Google search, but nothing really caught my eye, so I was hoping for some suggestions here.

Some of us wake up to wood.

Where are you located? For instance some eggers may even give you some for the asking! For instance I have been giving away peach wood as well as some wild black cherry to anyone who will come pick it up. I have more than I can ever use given my number of trips around the sun.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time!

I don't know Ron, black cherry smoked cheesecake sounds like something you need to try.

Meeeshigan22 said:I appreciate the suggestion, but it’s not close in my opinion. I have 30+ white oaks on my property, and if I could avoid paying a premium for post I’d gladly do it. White oak is frequently used in my fire pit, works great for that.
I believe post is slightly sweeter than white but I don't know if you're going to tell much of a difference between white and post with dirty smoke. I could see the subtle difference with clean smoke in an offset but I'm not sure if it's worth a premium for in the BGE."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. I'm lucky in that I bought a 50# box from fruita before the news broke. I plan to source locally going forward. My preference is for cherry, though I've bought fruita's post oak, cherry, apple, peach, and maybe some others over the years. I wish him all the best in retirement.Plymouth, MN
