Greetings friends,

after three large PS - over the years one broken outside of warranty, one within - the new warranty process for dealers seems to have finally caught up with me. My local Ace and my local independent dealer won’t exchange a PS without the online forms.

I understand the reasoning, but I used to walk into the indi store and just hand them the piece and they’d pull stock, even from a display to help. No longer.

Anyway - I’m trying to get through the online warranty process  for the PS. Considering I paid for the last one out of a sense of doing right by BGE after all the years, I’m seriously considering leaving the PS behind and going with the multi-rack with diffuser setup you guys always recommend.

I just can’t remember what it is. :p

I have two eggs that need the multilevel  and one egg that just needs the diffuser.

…. The PS will survive long enough for this week of cooks. Two eggs still enjoy heathy PS so I’ll cannibalize from them for my main workhorse egg..

but I’m done paying so much for this thing that breaks even though I am CAREFUL. I like the system. I’m just over the durability investment.

Thanks :)

Ceramic Grill Store is the place to check out.
They’re sold out of their large adjustable rig.

I do have two spiders already.. maybe I can self-rig with a pizza stone..

  • You can cut your PS up and use it for a deflector with your next rig. Also @HannahGreeneEgg has been seemingly helpful with folks navigating warranty issues.

Don't know your BGE sizes but here's the link to the Ceramic Grill Store mentioned above:

The site can be a bit of a challenge to completely sort out so just give 'em a call.  They will set you straight, every time.

Pizza stone may be an option. Some of the cheaper ones on Amazon are kinda thin, though. Also check pottery kiln shelf type of stuff.

I've been happy using a GrillGrate as an indirect piece. They go on sale, sometimes.

Should still exercise caution, I've seen one or two broken ones at the store I worked.
Edit: if CI DFMT can break, the SM CI PS can.

They also get nasty quickly. I'd go with a pizza stone and something to hold it.

I do have two spiders already.. maybe I can self-rig with a pizza stone..

i use the spider and pizza stone down low and it works really well as a deflector for idirects. with the adjustable rig sometimes i add a simple metal pan higher up, pizza or paella p with the spider and stone down low

I've got a cast iron plate setter. Seems to work very well, probably indestructible, but heavy.
Mine came from Smokeware but it does not seem to be available there now. This looks like the same thing. They have if for a Large or a Medium.

Warranty request was declined by the head office - I don’t have proof of purchase so that’s totally understandable.

I have the PS WOO for my XL and the L before that.  With the L I had an oval stone and a 1/2 stone.  For the XL only 1/2 stones are/ were available so I have 2.

I do 95% of my cooks with a 1/2 stone in place for indirect direct.  The whole unit lifts out to get to charcoal easy enough.  If you arent already fitted with the Basket for charcoal might as well do that now as well.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting.  The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president.

works good with wings. put the wingettes over the metal pan and the drummettes to the outside of the metal pan were its a little hotter ( im calling it a double indirect indirect/direct setup).  with butts i just use a naked grungy  pizza stone down low on the spider
