I know the night is young, but unless that was an old news item and I am at the bottom of the receiving list I'm surprised at this new lump introduction. I have to wonder just how wide spread the in store distribution will be...though with the Mighty ACE then special orders are always possible. But as most of us know the shipping with Missy Handling the bags can bring dust into the picture.

I received the email but didn’t bother opening it. No need to stray from Rockwood.

I just gave the local assistant manager at Ace a very short lesson on charcoal stuff after he offered bge brand and seemed interested. He eventually replied with I'll keep that in mind and I knew I had lost the battle. Bought 5 bags of Rockwood

For those of you in the GWN Maple Leaf and Basques are top notch.  I have never found a source for Maple Leaf in the lower 48 but I was gifted a bag of Maple Leaf that was much appreciated.  It definitely burns hot.
Around once a year I will order a couple of bags of Basques that I can get thru a supplier out of NYS.
Sorta tangential to the topic but it is Friday.   =)

I'll have to ask my local dealer in this 1 horse town if they'll carry the BGE Maple lump.
What is maple lump best used for?

  • I had my local ace stocking RW but I fell behind on purchasing this summer so they pulled it. I might  order some on their website but I’ve been using Blues Hog because they had it and it’s cheaper.

It's a little sweet and it has a great smell, very clean smoke. Maple leaf over basque maple though. Mixes well with any smoking wood added

It’s probably Royal Oak. RO is headquartered in Roswell.

I kinda wondered what company or companies were supplying these and just how they were confirming the actual content. I believe the lump making process is a pretty dirty business and bagging it isn't an easy "in this bag goes that lump" and then "in that bag goes that lump"

  • would be nothing new (company wise) if RO but seems like the species of wood variety is new to the offering. theres a new-ish lump startup in north ga (meat head) that is all south american. country of origin specific instead of species of wood specific.  oh well. yes still rockwood “pretty much every time” here.

looked up wicked good— always liked their product. it looks like they tried to find someone to pass the torch. did they not?  would be a shame. always a shame to see a business disappear if it’s making money. if not then sure.

liked the comp blend the best. problem was a stable supply of south american hard woods from what i remember. governments were changing what they could use and why they started making weekend warrior. then canada stopped supplying the us with the mapleleaf for whatever reason. lee helped me find small stockpiles of comp blend for a few years til the stock just went dry. nice people, i imagine dealing with south america was stressful at times
