Mass Firings, Project Cancellation

This seems to deserve its own thread.  If you haven’t seen this yet, the Trump admin / DOGE / Project 2025 geniuses have put in place a mass firing exercise:

And then they are just outright cancelling projects, contracts, etc. as well.  Here’s an example of what’s getting sh!tcanned.

That’s right, a program that helps disabled kids.

Most of this ain’t legal, by the way.  Does that matter?  Probably not.

They have sh!tcanned probationary employees at the NIH.  Didn’t matter who they were or how long they’d been an employee.  Some of these people were in a probationary window because they’d recently been promoted.  These are some of the best young scientists our country has to offer, working on tough problems in human health.  In other words, they were working to save lives.  And they were fired by email on a Friday night.  Not by their supervisors, but rather by a bunch of jackbutts who’ve never met them, because they could.

If democrats had given Reagan the spending cuts they promised it would have been much less painful.

Reagan’s joke about “I’m from the government and I’m here to help” certainly does take on an ironic meaning these days.

In other words, he's more qualified to be Secretary of Defense than Hegseth.

And now he's preparing to gut the Post Office.
One of the Biden administration's biggest failures was not replacing DeJoy when they had the chance (although that guy would've been fired by cheeto yesterday, too).

he should close the post office.....it shouldnt take 3 or more weeks to mail a check to a company thats a three minute walk away. cancelled a fuel bill check at the bank today, wrote a new one, and then walked it over. thats not the only one im waiting on the post office to deliver

I have a similar problem. My address is 9999 One Street, 9999 Other Street is five houses away, 2 houses to the stop sign and 3 houses to the right. At least once every 2 weeks I have to take misfiled mail from my box and walk it to the correct box. How much would it cost for each mail truck to have Google Maps on board?

So, not making excuses for them, but do we judge them differently than FedEx, etc. because they're government?

Regarding DOGE I just came across this:
"As one recently departed federal technology official wrote in draft testimony for lawmakers, which we obtained, “DOGE is one romance scam away from a national security emergency.”"
    So true!

That's a local issue that needs to be reported/investigated, and not at all indicative of the entire USPS.

If you want to get the USPS attention, register with USPS.com and file a complaint.  Every time I have launched one I get a call or email (your choice of contact) within around 30-45 minutes of the complaint landing in their system.

It's the Boston north area where my house and shop is, there's two post offices in the city and neither delivers, it comes from another city.  I can not get mail delivered at the camp in Maine either, have registered the box in town three times in twenty years, can't even mail to it myself. In the city of Methuen north of Boston, they don't even keep the lights on in the building. Our mail doesn't come from Methuen anymore, it comes from a nearby bankrupt city.

So my house , my work my camp.  I'm no longer sold on the usps.   Probably the pay is not enough for New England as there's no worker bees up here that think 25 bucks an hour with benefits is doable, it's not here
