Adam Ragusea's newest video is on how charcoal is made and its history.  Thought some other folks here might find it interesting.

I was that nerd (every gradeschool class has one) that got a microscope in 2nd grade, chemistry set in third, etc.  One experiment had some sawdust in the bottom of a test tube, fitted with a stopper with a glass tube in the center of it.  The bottom of the test tube got heated with the trusty Bunsen, you could see the gasses come off, rise up, and then exit thru the glass tube; and then, you could light that gas.  Fascinated me that you could watch the sawdust turn to carbon, while the flame burned several inches away.  (I must've missed the part of the lesson that the carbon left in the tube could then be burned again)  :glasses:

Wow!  With all the BS misinformation about charcoal that is on the internet, this guy hit it 100% correct with just a little bit of research.  I wish some of the so called BBQ influencers would take the same amount of time/effort rather than just making stuff up or repeating what they heard from somebody else.
