OT: Another Side Of The Nuclear Industry

My heart decided to act up yesterday so I was admitted for a cardiac work up. Lying here waiting for the nuclear stress test after being injected with Technetium-99. 

Last I knew, all of the radio pharmaceuticals were made in three reactors around the world:

One in Canada, another in Sweden, and lastly in South Africa. They need to coordinate outages with each other so that when one needs to go offline for maintenance, the others need to make up the delta to keep up with demand.

    Good luck with the test today, my son had that test 2 weeks ago. I had never considered the the source of the materials used for the test. That is a pretty small number of facilities, and none being in the US is a little surprising.

    My knowledge comes from a conference I attended back in 2010 or so, I assume there are more production facilities now.

    Nah, I tend to keep my nerdiness (nerdness? nerdishness?) shoved down where no one sees it when amongst people I don't know, similar to what I have to do with my dark and twisted submariner brand of humor. 

    Because of how busy the hospital is, I was given a room on the L&D floor. Pretty nice having a large private room to myself.

    Glad you are not having cardiac issues!

    Also, thank you for the trivia!  I love learning things like that, and it is definitely something I never even thought about.  I didn’t realize the medical implications of nuclear reactors.  Just assumed they ordered the stuff on Amazon and didn’t go past that level!
