58 bucks for 10. is most of the food from a food pantry This year, the average cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people is $58.08
— a 5% decrease from 2023 – but still 19% higher than in 2019,
according to The American Farm Bureau Federation's 39th annual
Thanksgiving dinner survey.

If you're asking if Thanksgiving groceries were over $58, you probably shouldn't be on this forum. I think the Weber forum is still looking for members...

We always have people bring dishes, so it's possible except the peanut oil is more than that aloneTHANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

They probably did not count butter, seasonings, a glass of wine, milk, oil, etc. tell the guest that's not included and maybe bring a sañdwich. I'm making fried turkey, auntie sue, could you bring over a turkey. Hey Jack could you bring 3 gallons of peanut oil.......Legume said:We always have people bring dishes, so it's possible except the peanut oil is more than that alone

I really think it's the price of eggsTHANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

The turkey was in the $80 range. And I bought a backup turkey. I know the Costco run was between 4 and 5 hundred. I'm here to raise the average.Large, Medium, MiniMax, 36" Blackstone

My organic 22 lb turkey and an apple pie from a local farm was $140. I exceeded the $58 average by probably an order of magnitude when you include the wine.

Not to be a downer, but this stat gives me pause.
There are folks who can rustle up a Thanksgiving meal, for their family/friends/loved ones, for under $5.80/head. We should take a moment to let that sink in.
Pops lived through the Bengal Famine, so he has a different perspective on food than I (many/most of us?) do. 20% of children in the US face "food insecurity" i.e. there isn't enough food for everyone in their family.
I need to do something about this, at least in some small way. I guess that's what one of my goals for 2025 could be.

Like anything it’s worth looking at the original source to understand how they got this number:

Here’s the set of items that goes into the meal:
I do wonder how many families are drinking whole milk at Thanksgiving dinner. Otherwise they have not included any alcohol, but it’s interesting to see just how much they did include."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

My turkey breast and ham from a local farm was $100. That doesn’t include the grocery and liquor store trip.

Thanks for posting, John. Nothing more than a way to express cost of food across the country. It's not the average cost of what people are actually spending on their thanksgiving meal across all families in the US, it's the average cost of a defined set of items across the country in order to express changes in food cost year over year.
Go ahead and make that oyster dressing, you won't skew their data.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
Precisely that.Legume said:

its also defined as feeding ten people......darn that would be close. for ten i would start by doubling that and they didnt include gravy, i probably had 15 bucks into the gravy. anyways, i saved 2.35 by picking my own cranberries.
