caliqueen has quite a few bitter melons/gourds growing this year, and I’ve been thinking of cooking this dish for a while. Basically, bitter melon with scrambled eggs, a smidge of DP Peking.

Can you find Indian Hakka recipes in the book?  ;) Kidding aside, good to see you come back with a bang.

Actually, yes! The author gathered a good number of the recipes from Tangra, emigres from Calcutta, as well as others from India.

*You* don't need this book for the recipes, but I think you'd enjoy perusing it. It makes for a good read.

Way to jump back in with a great cook right there.
SOSDD with the occasional middle school drama is all you've missed here.  Even the OT section is running along with the normal left-right dustups.

Just read the professional reviews in amazoid. You're right, I'll probably enjoy reading more about our people as much as the recipes.
Edit: Learned from the first reader review from Canada that the author visited Toronto, hence the Tangra style Indian-Hakka recipes.

"Foreward by Martin Yan" - is that the same Martin Yan from the 80s with many cookbooks, a TV series, and a wok pun for every occasion? He was a hoot, i have some of his cookbooks, should dig them up.

Surprisingly, I showed some restraint, and did not add any to the chicken. I like it to be gingery, so garlic in the rice, and just ginger in the chix.

Same Martin Yan. He wrote a thoughtful foreword, which doesn't sound like his usual TV persona.

The recipes in this book are unlikely to be like Yan's recipes, but he's been in the game for so long, that there may be some similar recipes in his repertoire.

pro move, @Canugghead. We are also fortunate that our library has a good selection of cookbooks to borrow.

Even though so many (most?) recipes, etc. are available online, I enjoy the feel of turning pages, and end up buying a fair number of cookbooks. Its not the worst vice to have, by far
