    Believe it or not, that's illegal in some of the US states.  Here in UT, a rainwater collection system must be registered/licensed, the water used only on your property, with a max limit of 2,500 gal/year collected.  
     
    My next-door neighbor bought two standard tanks, square nylon tanks about 2m x 1.5m x 1.5m (nod) to collect his roof's rainwater, but like most of his projects he bought all the hardware but never followed thru (I'm similarly guilty of such things).  He "temporarily" (~3 years now) parked a big tub under his eaves-trough, which caught a lot of water but he never collected it; it bred mosquitoes very well (which drives me crazy) but I don't dare secretly dump some skeeter poison into the tub as his two german shepherds drink out of it all day.  Guess I need to just secretly drill some holes...

    @Botch Interesting, so the guv'mt dictates how many collectors you can license based on surface area of your roof and annual rain forcast, in order to enforce the 2,500 gal limit? In some places where mosquitoes are rampant it's illegal to have any vessels with standing water and no lid around the house. 

    Every bit helps here, our water-sewer bill is about 50% of what we pay for hydro. On a hot day our garden beds gobble up half a barrel.

    @Dyal_SC our short growing season just started, nothing worth sharing yet. Exceptions are the perennial green onion and herbs...mint, dill, sage, oregano, thyme.

    No, apparently it's NOT based on surface area of your roof/property, but it should be.
    And I've never seen any kind of report, complaint, or letter to the editor bitching about enforcement of this over-reach; as long as "they" are not actively trying to find/fine offenders, it really doesn't bother me too much.

    pears are coming in very nicely - usually get around 100 from the one grafted tree that I have along a fence. Apples are going to be better this year. The neighbour took out some trees on their side of the fence which were shading the apple and stealing all the water/nutrients. Last year got a couple of apple for the first time in a decade and this year they are scattered about the tree after a good trimming over winter.

    last year I grew corn again in my 8'x16' raised bed, but the raccoons got *every*single*cob* which still annoys me so I am hesitant to do it again this year.

    those varmints raid my apple, pear, and cherry trees most years.  they seemed to have moved off this year hopefully

    planted clematis 8 or so years back. it died and didnt come back til this year. i guess im growing it now, it came back.......see what happens

    Can someone tell me exactly what kind of pear tree this is?  Maybe a Bartlett dwarf?  They don’t get much bigger than this.  Always have a hard time getting to them before the deer and squirrels wipe them out, but they’re loaded down this year.

    @GrateEggspectations this is the thought anyway. Not sure if they actually do anything but I have these around so I threw a handful in each pot.
