Sorta OT - Ice cream makers

My furnace only ran twice last night, so winter's coming to an end and it'll be too hot to go outside next week. That means... ice cream season!
Mike from Pro Home Cooks did a review of a Ninja ice cream machine that he's enthused about:

Kinda pricey at $250, and you basically freeze your mixture first overnight then this machine grinds it into ice cream, sorbet, froyo, whatever. One of the comments mentioned a Cuisinart machine, its only $77, much smaller, and makes two quarts (more than enough for me); you have to pre-freeze the bowl only. I also saw an attachment for a KitchenAid mixer, but only the bigger ones with a bowl lift.
So, do you have an ice cream maker, what is it, and would you recommend it? I'm itchin' for a new project.

someone here has this one.
I'd love to get it, but I'm out of counter space, and caliqueen has found most of my hiding places in the garage.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -

I’ve got the cuisinart variety. Works well for $100 ish. freeze the bowl for 8 hours then make.

I'd want one that doesn't involve freezing a tub beforehand. I'm not always that organized to plan ahead, and I never have a big enough hole in the freezer to accommodate said tub.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

It’s challenging. Pro-tip, I wash it and leave it in the freezer. My 1/4 calf just got delivered last week, I had to get creative on where to put beef to keep the bowl in therecaliking said:I'd want one that doesn't involve freezing a tub beforehand. I never heard of such a KA accessory! Is that something new? Or is it more just some recipe buried back in a KA cookbook…or are you just pulling our leg?jdMyers said:Add an ice cream maker bowl to your kitchen aid mixer.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

I could never duplicate the Italian gelato down the street. Scoop of berry berry with a scoop cayenne chocolatefukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I'm kinda in the same boat, and a small chest freezer for the basement may be a better "next" purchase for me than an ice cream machine. The bushel of green chile I get every August takes up half my current freezer space itself (which reminds me, I need to be pulling out more leftovers, Aug will be here before you know it).caliking said:I'd want one that doesn't involve freezing a tub beforehand. I have a Dairy Queen close by. Wish I had a Cold Stone Creamery though.
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.
