Steak au Poivre - not an egg recipe, but a fond memory!

I know - if no picture it didn't happen...BUT IT DID!!!
Way back in 1981 on our 15th wedding anniversary which we shared the same date with some neighbors we went to a French restaurant named...(hold your excitement...) Frenchies!
and we had Steak au Poivre.
Talk about loving it!!! We did and often talked about that night and the meal!
Sadly less than 15 more years later both of them had died...
Tonight was NOT our 57th wedding anniversary, but I fixed that meal for my wife and I as we love it!
Do any of you eggers want to share your similar non-egged meal memory?

@RRP, What a treat. Sounds memorable for many reasons. Thanks for starting. Food is such a fascinating and integral part of our lives. One of my most memorable meals was neither fancy nor expensive. Yet it somehow has become part of what I do today.I was 14 at the time and we as a family were in Chamonix France in the French Alps. My aunt was with us and one night she and I walked from the youth hostel, down the hill to a little shop. We bought a rotisserie chicken and chips which the shopkeeper rolled in newspaper. We took it around the corner and found a stone wall to sit on and ate it with our hands. It was simply fantastic. Juicy, greasy, salty. I can remember the feeling of the night air in the mountains, the smell of the chicken and the newspaper, even the taste of the chips (fries). Great stuff.Columbus, Ohio--A Gasser filled with Matchlight and an Ugly Drum.

Great post @RRP. Got me thinking. One that came to mind is when I had just completed my basic training in the South African Navy we were allowed a half day pass. There was a local fish and chips shop outside the base. Where we all bought greasy fish and chips doused in malt vinegar, sat on the side walk and enjoyed our short lived freedomGreensboro North Carolina

Hidden gem, deserves a bump.
For me it was the first time I had escargot. Ate it as a dare, ended up loving it and get it when I have the chance, which is not often unfortunately.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

I even have small ceramic escargot shells to heat and eat them from! Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
I never thought to prepare them myself. I might just look into that. Thank you for the inspiration.RRP said:

Apologies for the OT departure, but a memory just came up from my past that gave me a laugh. I have cousins in Manchester, U.K. and my sister once spent a summer there babysitting their kids. While there, in the middle of the night, she heard a strange sound at the door. When she went to check it out, a neighbour of theirs bearing the last name Geeky was shoving tons of garden snails through the mail slot. He had been out for a night at the pub and I suppose the drink too firm hold. 😂 Get a friend and neighbour like Geeky and the escargots will be delivered fresh to (through?) your door at no charge!

When I was a little kid I use to enjoy dumping a whole box of Mr. Bubble in the bathtub and farting profusely to make stink bubbles. One of my fondest childhood memories 👍RRP said:Do any of you eggers want to share your similar non-egged memory?Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

Our first Valentine’s Day together, my parents vacated the house and I made my now-wife crepes with ham, asparagus and cheese for dinner. I was pretty young and didn’t have much cooking experience at the time, but I was used to making crepes and knew I could pull it off. Guess it worked!

Crepes with ham and asparagus? It was not your cooking that won her over. Which makes the union even more special.GrateEggspectations said:Our first Valentine’s Day together, my parents vacated the house and I made my now-wife crepes with ham, asparagus and cheese for dinner. Right now I have 2 cans (7 oz wet weight - 4.25 oz drained weight) which are 12 to 14 count. They are an imported item - brand name is Musette. The US company is named Haddon House Food Products out of Medford, NJ 1-800-257-6174 ext 225. Granted Kroger won't carry them but surely out there in AZ you have some speciality items stores that probably do.Ozzie_Isaac said:

BTW first time I had some they were breaded and I did not care for them in the least - not the thought, but the crappy breading taste! A guy in our group told me to just break off the hard crust and eat the snails - which I did and I have loved them very since!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

Growing up my step grandmother (grandma died youg) had a home on the Skull Creek side of Hilton Head Island, SC. This was before giant homes and rich folks found their way to the low country. It was a tiny "river house" made of concrete block. We would catch crabs off her dock and my uncle would immediately drop the males in the boiling pot amd toss the females back. The smells of the boil, the salt air, the warm summer breeze. Man, back when things seemed much simpler. The crabs were delicious too.Fish, Hunt, Cook....anything else?
