    New psychology findings suggest that attractive students earn higher grades in school, but for female students, this beauty premium disappears when classes are taught remotely. The findings were published in the journal Economic Letters.

    Moving up from the male/female aspect, and just looking at "attractiveness", this subject is a big one for me.  In college ROTC, I was told a couple of times that I'd do well as an AF Officer, because I was tall.  But, during my junior year I had to take a Speech class, and the first day the instructor gave his own introduction, and the rest of the period we all had to do an impromptu speech, 3-5 minutes, introducing ourselves to the rest of the class; the instructor would make a couple of comments after each one.  
    After I gave my own intro, I got hit with a curveball.  The instructor asked me what my major was, and what I wanted to do in my career.  "M.E., Air Force officer".  He said, "Good, you're not going into Sales or Teaching; you have a really obnoxious voice and delivery style".  
    Wow; that hurt.  But, 40 years later, and with a lot of experience/reflections afterwards, I realize he was 100% right.  Jobs/assignments where I had to analyze a problem, then propose a written solution, I tended to do very well; jobs/assignments where I had to brief a solution, mostly failed, often miserably.  A part of my decision to retire early was simply to get away from having to give briefings, which towards the end were pure hell for me.  
    This has proven the case even in retirement.  I have very few (well, okay, no) local friends, and only have a few friends on internet forums (and thank god for that Backspace key). 
     
    Wish I had known all this back in college, maybe I could've steered my career into more of a writing area; I would've done a bit better.

    Botch it all depends on the audience. I had a boss once that had to be approached in a particular way. He was very visual so I would try to include a drawing or picture when laying out the problem. Then I would stop while he worked out the problem in his mind. When his eyes returned to looking straight ahead I would propose my preferred option. If he gave an asinine directive I would just note it in the project daily diary.
