Oven Method

for seasoning my new carbon steel wok (CGS).  Preheated oven to 450º, wok in for 20 minutes.
I used grape seed oil.
Do you think that's enough?

looks purdy...just like mine did but I hope yours doesn't turn sticky like my wok did after seasoning it with grape seed oil. I had to strip mine and start all over with something different.

It looks awesome. I just seasoned a new one using Kenji’s method. He said he puts a tiny bit of oil (I used grape-seed) and then assume you made a mistake and try to scrub it all off. Then burn it in with gas  stove burner or torch.  It’s the best seasoning I have gotten so far. The simplest method as well.

I forgot to mention this was 6 rounds of seasoning

LOL…yes…that omitted fact does add an important factor!

  • I just seasoned with one  coat  and it has been very non-stick this far. I think the multiple coats (which I have done before) make the sticky coating. Interested to hear how yours works. Based on how it looks, I have high hopes

I wondered about the multiple coats as well as that probably was my problem…but still I wonder how just one seasoning effort could stand up versus multiples which is why I went overboard and they got all sticky aka massive failure. BUT @loco_engr seems to be proving me wrong!

You should be good. I also initially seasoned it with one coat , like Cen-Tex did, and it seemed to do the trick. That was after taking a wire wheel to it, because it was rusty from some time of neglect. That might have also helped.

I never bothered seasoning my wok. I just use it. Works just fine and it's developing a nice season. When I cook, I use peanut oil, if that matters.

After I applied a thin coat of oil, I used a different paper towel to wipe out as much as possible.  HTH
