New vs Used

Wanted to get some opinions on this, I recently purchased an XL Egg with a ton of accessories, modular table setup, etc for a pretty decent price. The Egg is around 5 years old, has the new band, reggulator cap, and is in good shape overall. The person I bought it off of had just replaced the firebox and has a brand new one in box as well that I now have.

Question is, should I buy a new Egg or EggFest Egg ($1,315 for XL Egg, Nest, and Conveggtor), put my used one in the nest with the Conveggtor and sell it for $900 or so? I'd be out $400 but have the lifetime warranty and peace of mind of a cracked base or lid. I have a Large already that's under warranty and did a similar switch with it. Plan is for these to last as long as I'm still grilling/smoking, so hopefully a long time. Thanks for any input, advice you can give!

Thanks John, so you wouldn't have any worries about just continuing using the XL that I currently have? I like the peace of mind of a lifetime warranty but it may not be necessary. I cook 1-2 times a week on it so not super heavily.

You bought used, so have a lot of us. No warranty, but replacement bases and tops aren’t that expensive. If it worries you, buy the egg fest egg and sell what you have. No warranty claims yet on my XL, 6+ years in

The base is the most expensive part of the egg to replace.  The XL base is $489.  If it cracks, you could buy a new base and not have to monkey around with two eggs, parts, etc.

    Enjoy that egg!

Welcome aboard and continue to enjoy the journey.  Above all, have fun.
People here will not pay more than around 50% of retail for a used BGE (independent of accessories).  You will do much better on the open market as you have experienced.  The question comes down to how much you value your peace of mind.  Only you can answer that.  FWIW-

I may get some pushback on this but imo it would partially depend on how you plan you use your egg. If your mostly smoking low and slow I wouldn’t worry about it but if your getting it roaring for pizzas I might swap them out.

I would do exactly what you said, get a new one with warranty and sell your old one. The first time something cracks on your egg you’ll be pissed u didn’t do that.

The XL version seems to be the most prone to cracking. I've heard of people having to replace their XL base 5 - 6 times. If you buy a replacement base from a dealer you'll have that under warranty for life. With one replacement base you'll have already spent more than the $400 difference between a new and old egg. Plus if you go new everything else is covered under warranty. (Ceramic portions anyways)

If it's a grill that gets used once a week it might be worth the risk. If it's a grill that's going to be used often it's an easy choice and a piece of mind. Just my two cents....

    Well said…
And what is that replacement base going to cost in 5-10 years?

As the owner of 5 eggs, some new, some used, don't worry about it...too much thinking just makes more questions. I have never had an issue with the first BGE I bought in 1996, it still cooks perfectly. Keep the one you bought, cook on it and enjoy it.
Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

How hot are you cooking those Papa Murphy’s?

I wouldn't eat Papa Murphy's if they gave me a house.  Seriously though, I started making sourdough pizzas and I don't think I will go back to traditional dough.
