Replacement base is larger than old base

I finally received my replacement base. It is slightly larger than my old base which caused an alignment issue.
Has anyone else had this problem?
My local dealer did the best that they could so we shall if I have any leaks when I fire it up once the gaskets have cured.
It past the dollar bill test with just one spot that had less resistance.

Here is an image of the band.
I did send the info to BGE support as well.

How much is slightly larger? Does it have an underbite in front now?
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

New base is 26 1/4
it has a slight underbite. -
If it leaks a bit perhaps putting on a Rutland gasket now would suffice to help seal it up.

Hmmm, seeing that bases and domes are made using a process called “slip casting” and then those parts are made in huge quantities days and even weeks apart. Slip casting means clay in a liquid form is poured into poreous forms which suck the water out. Then the greenware as it is called (greenware is not a BGE created term!) is allowed to air dry, before it later gets fired at a high temperature in a huge kiln!dstearn said:

the base.Since they are made separately very few domes and bases EVER match perfectly,…and your MERE 1/8th inch is REMARKABLE in my opinion!
Unfortunately people seem to think that a BGE is like fine China - which it sure isn’t…and in fact even a brand new BGE in a box typically means the packaging was the first time the dome and base EVER came together!
Be HAPPY Be BLESSED that you have av1/8th inch issue!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
My XL base is 26 1/8". I will trade you. My lid is 26 3/16.

1/8” is negligible. Your gasket will accommodate that minor alignment issue!
-
yeah, I see that even within the same box the ceramics are likely to not match perfectly. This is true with other brands as well. The gasket and lip of the ceramics is quite wide and will easily accommodate this issue. The new style hinge and band assembly makes adjustment very easy and simple to get the most desired position. I often adjust them so that the front looks as nice as possible and let and differences reside in the hinge area. Usually, but not always achievable. The seal should not be an issue at all.

I think the biggest issue could be a gap around the firebox and fire ring. I had a narrow firebox and ring once, and it made higher heat a challenge. It was solved by getting newer internals to force air only through the fire. The smaller dome will be ok and shouldn’t cause an issue. But like everyone else that will reply, these are only opinions.

My firebox and ring have been replaced so I should be good.cookingdude555 said:I think the biggest issue could be a gap around the firebox and fire ring. Thanks for the advice everyone. As long as there are no gaps I should be good. I will run low temp test next week and break in the new gasket.

I don't recall my LBGE ever passing the dollar bill test, the few times that I tried it. Worried about the underbite for a bit, and tried a few different ways to correct it, then gave up. Egg still cooked the same, and churned out great grub.
I consider myself fortunate, that in my life, 1/8" is negligible in any part of it.

This scares me, Doctor. I have seen many a Rescue 911 where 3mm this way or that way and the guy would have surely been dead.caliking said:I don't recall my LBGE ever passing the dollar bill test, the few times that I tried it. I will politely redirect you to read the last line of that post again. 1/8" is just a shimmy of a jiggle away from perfection.Ozzie_Isaac said:

My life is different than others'. And, happy to say that I don't envy any one of them

I don’t envy you having to examine pediatric anuses on a daily basis. Good thing our species is diverse or garbage collection would pay in the 6 figures.______________________________________________I love lamp..

Anuses (ani?) are not as much of the biz, as one may think. There's a good bit north of that requiring attentionnolaegghead said:I don’t envy you having to examine pediatric anuses on a daily basis. Good thing our species is diverse or garbage collection would pay in the 6 figures.

In the meantime I smoked Jerk Chicken on the Recteq tonight.
