Kitchen Aid Mixer - Spring Collar

I got a 6 QT Kitchen Aid Mixer from Costco. One of the ones with the bowl that raises and lowers. It does not have a spring collar like my smaller tilt head model. It also whines really loud while in low speeds. Is this lack of spring collar correct?

If it whines while performing a task, that is the new millennial version of Kitchen AidVisalia, Ca @lkapigian

As to the millennial whining sound, I think that's probably normal too, mine is annoyingly loud. The resident expert I think is @w@WeberWho______________________________________________I love lamp..

Yup, ATK mentioned that the bowl-lift models were quite a bit louder than the tilting-head models.nolaegghead said:As to the millennial whining sound, I think that's probably normal too, mine is annoyingly loud."Dumplings are just noodles that have already eaten" - Jon Kung

It really is crazy the difference in noise between models. My old Hobart Kitchenaid mixer is buttery smooth and mechanically sound. I've restored other Kitchenaid mixers where the motors would wake up individuals down the hall. Nothing wrong with the motor but just noisy."The pig is an amazing animal. Thank you all. Glad to know it's working as intended. Not so glad that it is so loud. The drop bowl is not near as easy to work with either. I prefer the function of my little tilt head, but really like the size of the 6qt.

Yep, I've never understood all the love for the lift bowl versions. I'm not a fan but I can understand why they make both.Ozzie_Isaac said:Thank you all. Glad to know it's working as intended. I don’t like the lift bowl but I like the larger size where there are no other options that I know of without switching brands or going commercial______________________________________________I love lamp..

That is my exact boat. If they had a 6+ qt tilt head, I would be all over that, especially near the $299 I paid for this one.nolaegghead said:I don’t like the lift bowl but I like the larger size where there are no other options that I know of without switching brands or going commercialI would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Hmmm, being totally deaf in one ear I just assumed my KA was intentionally built that way to keep people like me alert.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I bought my tilt-head in the mid-eighties, based on the room between my counter and my cupboards; a lift-bowl wouldn't have fit (I have to slide my tilter out to use it, but that's okay). Same story in my current/last residence.WeberWho said:

Good grief, I just realized my KA is over 35 years old! And it did get a pretty hard workout during my pizza phase. Still pulling strong, I'm happy."Dumplings are just noodles that have already eaten" - Jon Kung

We have the KA Professional 600, came without a spring so we ordered one from https://www.mrmixer.store so now we have one. It's running way smoother where it would shake a tad bit under load. All good now!!

I liked our bowl lift for "shredding" boneless skinless chicken breast in mass quantity.
Edit: if you try this, I found it still had to bre warm.
The tilt head doesn't "lock" down, does it?
